Der Schriftsteller Gerald Kingsland sucht per Annonce eine Gefährtin für ein Jahr auf einer abgelegenen Insel. Er findet die junge Bankangestellte Lucy Irvine, die ebenso wie er dem geregelten Leben in London gerne den Rücken kehren möchte. Weil die Umstände es erfordern, heiraten die beiden überstürzt und begeben sich spärlich ausgerüstet auf eine einsame Insel vor der Küste Australiens. Doch schon bald gerät ihr Traum von Sonne und Freiheit zu einem existenzialistischen Horror-Trip... Das Ganze klingt wesentlich interessanter als es dann wirklich ist. Die Bilder wirken oft wie aus einem Tourismus-Katalog. Was von Nicolas Roeg vielleicht als Gesellschaftssatire gedacht war, verkommt leider zu einem plakativen, allerdings gut gespielten Zwei-Personen-Stück
