Although this was a highly successful album, Crosby was later accused of being self-indulgent by some critics. In recent years that opinion has reversed, acknowledging that the amount of space he allowed to fellow musicians, makes this a wholly unselfish record. The cream of San Francisco assembled, and in no particular order, there are Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Jack Casady, Paul Kantner, Joni Mitchell and Grace Slick. Crosby moves from the humour in his modern-day Jesse James story, 'Cowboy Movie', to wondrous spiritual voice excursions in 'I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here' and 'Tamalpais High'. The playing is faultless throughout and if you are not familiar with this wondrous record, please take the risk
