'Sinʼat ʻolam le-ʻam ʻolam by Nahum Sokolow( Book )

6 editions published between 1882 and 2007 in Hebrew and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A revised edition of the book written by Sokolow in Warsaw in 1882, which reviews Jewish history, focusing on Eastern Europe. Discusses religious antisemitism from the medieval period; anti-Jewish legislation in various countries, often carried out for economic reasons; and intolerance in Russia and Poland, partly due to strong feelings of nationalism. Jews first settled in Poland sometime in the 8th-9th centuries. They began to suffer from antisemitism soon after, mainly because they were forced to engage in usury to make a living. Later they also became tradesmen, but Polish tradesmen feared competition and Jewish activities were restricted through legislation. Compares the situation of Polish Jews to that of Russian Jews, who could only live in certain areas, but had equal rights. Cites nationalism, especially among Slavs and Germans, as the main cause of antisemitism in the 19th century
Old new land by Theodor Herzl( Book )

5 editions published in 1902 in Hebrew and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Old New Land forever altered the face of the Middle East. The book was a nineteenth-century utopian blueprint for a modern state of Israel. There were Jewish settlers in Palestine, and Zionist ideas had existed in Eastern Europe before Herzl, but Herzl made Zionism into a cultural and political movement acceptable to Western governments and intellectuals. His prophecy at the end of this book became reality: "If you will it, it is not a fable." The author, founder of the Zionist movement, considered this utopian story his best literary work: an expression of his art, with a political message
