Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart( )

9 editions published between 1990 and 2001 in 3 languages and held by 517 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

ATMA Classique is reissuing one of Les Violons du Roy's seminal discs: the orchestra's recording of Mozart's Requiem as revised and completed by Robert D. Levin. The soloists are Karina Gauvin, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, John Tessier, and Nathan Berg. Bernard Labadie conducts Les Violons du Roy and the choir of La Chapelle de Québec. This recording was originally released on the Dorian label in 2002, and won the JUNO Award for Best Classical Album of the year in the vocal or choral performance category. This recording of Mozart's Requiem is especially poignant, as it was made in Troy, NewYork in the week following the September 11 attacks in 2001.The recording captures the emotion and immediacy of that special performance, which was later featured on CBC Television's Opening Night. The Globe & Mail wrote about "an appreciation of the transcendent aspects of the Requiem as a work of art that is about death, survival and the possibility of an afterlife. There is the magnificence of the music, so often used to solemnly mark terrible tragedy and bring solace."
Carmen by Georges Bizet( Recording )

24 editions published between 1989 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 492 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This production was recorded in the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli in 1960 and is sung in Italian. This CD set also includes excerpts from two other productions; one with Giuletta Simionato as Carmen, recorded in Palermo in 1959 (sung in Italian) and one with Simionato as Carmen and Di Stefano as Don José recorded in La Scala Milan in 1955 and conducted by Karajan
Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns( )

20 editions published between 1990 and 2008 in 4 languages and held by 441 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This Biblical tale of the overwhelming love between a Jewish leader (Samson) and a Philistine beauty (Dalila) that turns sour and destroys them both has inspired numerous composers. But it's easy to see why Saint-Saëns's opera has remained a favorite--not only with audiences but also with great singing actors. Seldom has Dalila been so sultry and seductive, or Samson's fall from strong man to blind prisoner been so wrenching. With enticing Risë Stevens and heroic Mario Del Monaco in the titles roles, and Martial Singher as the High Priest, this stunning performance is a true gem

Der fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner( Visual )

35 editions published between 1985 and 2008 in 3 languages and held by 374 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"One of the most acclaimed Wagner productions of the postwar period, this electrifying, revolutionary Bayreuth staging of 'The flying Dutchman" catapulted the German director Harry Kupfer to international fame. Kupfer's psychologically acute production presents the entire story as a hallucination, in which Senta's yearning for the eternally wandering Dutchman sends her into a trance-like state."--Container
Symphony no. 8 by Gustav Mahler( )

15 editions published between 1981 and 2017 in 4 languages and held by 341 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mahlers 8. Breite Empfehlung
