This story actually happened in the 1920s, in Barcelona. By day Lluís Serracant is a gentleman, an attorney, member of an influential Catalan family who lives with his widowed mother. By night, he is 'Flor de Otoño' or 'Autumn Flower, ' a drag performer on the stage of the Bataclan, a nightclub in Chinatown that caters to homosexual men. Lluís is single and parries all his mother's suggestions that he marry, while Autumn Flower has a lively social life, including an anarchist boyfriend. Together, they hatch a plan to blow up a bridge over which the train carrying dictator Primo de Rivera will pass as he arrives in the city

Julio, a black marketer, lives in the same building, and offers Paca economic support if she will become his mistress. Paca falls in love with Luis, and when Julio finds out he denounces Luis, hoping his arrest will clear the way for Paca to fall in love with him
