Thought and language by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

94 editions published between 1962 and 2015 in 3 languages and held by 2,156 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lev Vygotsky's Thought and Language has become recognized as a classic foundational work of cognitive science. Its 1962 English translation must certainly be considered one of the most important and influential books ever published by the MIT Press. In this highly original exploration of human mental development, Vygotsky analyzes the relationship between words and consciousness, arguing that speech is social in its origins and that only as children develop does it become internalized verbal thought. In 1986, the MIT Press published a new edition of the original translation by Eugenia Hanfmann and Gertrude Vakar, edited by Vygotsky scholar Alex Kozulin, that restored the work's complete text and added materials to help readers better understand Vygotsky's thought. Kozulin also contributed an introductory essay that offered new insight into Vygotsky's life, intellectual milieu, and research methods. from https://books.google.com (March 4, 2016)
Thought and language by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

138 editions published between 1961 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 2,019 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The present volume ties together one major phase of Vygotsky's work, and though its principal theme is the relation of thought and language, it is more deeply a presentation of a highly original and thoughtful theory of intellectual development. Vygotsky's conception of development is at the same time a theory of education. The book is, in many ways, more programmatic than systematic. It is at times distressingly swift in coming to conclusions that are reasonable in that special twilight shed by commonsense observation. But even then, the common sense Vygotsky brings to his task is not from the armchair but from incessant observation of children learning to talk and learning to solve problems. Vygotsky's untimely death cut off a developing stream of experiments; yet his work is only now beginning to be reflected in the vigorous activity of contemporary Soviet psychologists and linguists. This book includes a comment section at the end by Jean Piaget." (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)

Studies on the history of behavior : ape, primitive, and child by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

19 editions published between 1993 and 2016 in and held by 611 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The surge of contemporary interest in Vygotsky's contribution to child psychology has focused largely on his developmental method and his claim that higher psychological functions in the individual emerge out of social processes, that is, his notion of the ""zone of proximal development."" Insufficient attention has been given to his claim that human social and psychological processes are shaped by cultural tools or mediational means. This book is one of the most important documents for understanding this claim. Making a timely appearance, this volume speaks directly to the present cris

The Vygotsky reader by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

15 editions published between 1994 and 1998 in and and held by 503 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume covers the various areas in which Vygotsky worked, including education, psychology, paedology, psychiatry and defectology. Papers have been selected to give a representative overview of Vygotsky's multifaceted work during difficult periods. The volume also highlights little-known facets of his work, such as his anti-fascist and pro-socialist writings and provides the reader with a number of pieces that appear in English for the first time. The editors provide a brief introduction and notes for each translation to facilitate reading and place each piece in its historical context. As the volume requires no preparatory reading it can be used both as an introduction to the key ideas in Vygotsky's work, and as a companion to the theoretical and historical analysis presented in van der Veer and Vlasiner's Understanding Vygotsky

The Collected works of L.S. Vygotsky by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

16 editions published in 1997 in and held by 128 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this volume, readers are introduced to Vygotsky's argument for a theoretical and methodological approach to differentiate A "higher" mental functions from the more basic brain processes that other theorists believed were at the center of the psychological apparatus. The famed Soviet psychologist's view of developmental issues as an intricately woven tapestry of functions includes analyses of: - the development of speech and written language - the mastering of attention and mnemonic skills - self-control and the higher, more cultivated forms of behavior - the cultural age, personality, and world view of children

Théorie des émotions : étude historico-psychologique by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

9 editions published between 1998 and 2014 in and held by 113 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

51 editions published between 1964 and 2008 in and held by 107 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Denken und Sprechen : psychologische Untersuchungen by L. S Vygotskiĭ( )

7 editions published between 2002 and 2014 in and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Die Wiederentdeckung eines der größten Psychologen des 20. Jahrhunderts.
