Andy Warhol : Polaroids 1958-1987 by Andy Warhol( Book )

5 editions published in 2015 in English and Multiple languages and held by 160 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Instant Andy: Before there was Instagram, there was Warhol. "A picture means I know where I was every minute. That's why I take pictures. It's a visual diary."--Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol was a relentless chronicler of life and its encounters. Carrying a Polaroid camera nearly everywhere he went from the late 1960s until his death in 1987, he amassed a huge collection of instant pictures of friends, lovers, patrons, the famous, the obscure, the scenic, the fashionable, and himself. Created in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, this book features hundreds of these instant photos, most of them never seen before. Portraits of celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Alfred Hitchcock, Jack Nicholson, O.J Simpson, Pele, Debbie Harry are included alongside images of his entourage and high life, landscapes, and still lifes from Cabbage Patch dolls to the iconic soup cans. Often raw and impromptu, Warhol's Polaroids document his era like Instagram captures our own. From the unofficial court photographer of New York high and low society, this collection is an indispensable record of Warhol's life, world, and vision

Walton Ford : pancha tantra by Walton Ford( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Beauty and the beasts: Walton Ford's sinister wildlife scenes. At first glance, Walton Ford s large-scale, highly-detailed watercolors of animals recall the prints of 19th century illustrators John James Audubon and Edward Lear. A closer look reveals a complex and disturbingly anthropomorphic universe, full of symbols, sly jokes, and allusions to the operatic nature of traditional natural history. In this stunning but sinister visual universe, beasts and birds are not mere aesthetic objects but rather dynamic actors in allegorical struggles a wild turkey crushes a small parrot in its claw; a troupe of monkeys wreak havoc on a formal dinner table; an American buffalo is surrounded by bloodied white wolves. In dazzling watercolor, the images come to impress as much for their impeccable naturalism as they do for their complex narratives. This updated edition of Pancha Tantra features the artist's most recent works and contextualizes his collection of bestial tableaux with an in-depth exploration of his oeuvre, a complete biography, and excerpts from his textual inspirations: Vietnamese folktales and the letters of Benjamin Franklin, the Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini, and Audubon's Ornithological Biography."--Publisher's description

Strandbeest : the dream machines of Theo Jansen by Lena Herzog( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For the past seven years, photographer and artist Lena Herzog has followed the evolution of a new, kinetic species. Intricate as insects, but with bursts of equine energy, the "Strandbeests" or "beach creatures," are the creation of Dutch artist Theo Jansen, who has been working for nearly two decades to develop a new life-form that moves, and even survives, on its own. Set to roam the beaches of Holland, the Strandbeests pick up the wind in their gossamer wings and spring, as if by metamorphosis, into action. As if it were blood, not the breeze, running through their delicate forms, they quiver, cavort, and trot against the sun and sea, pausing to change direction if they sense loose sand or water that might destabilize their movement. Coinciding with a travelling exhibition, Herzog's photographic tribute captures Jansen's menagerie in a meditative black and white, showcasing Jansen's imaginative vision, as well as the compelling intersection of animate and inanimate in his creatures. The result is a work of art in its own right and a mesmerizing encounter not only with a very surrealist brand of marvelous, but also with whole new ideas of existence
Gärten( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in German and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
