Analytical mechanics : an introduction by A Fasano( )

26 editions published between 2002 and 2013 in English and held by 1,565 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Is the solar system stable? Is there a unifying 'economy' principle in mechanics? How can a pointmass be described as a 'wave'? This book offers students an understanding of the most relevant and far reaching results of the theory of Analytical Mechanics, including plenty of examples, exercises, and solved problems. - ;Analytical Mechanics is the investigation of motion with the rigorous tools of mathematics. Rooted in the works of Lagrange, Euler, Poincar--eacute--; (to mention just a few), it is a very classical subject with fascinating developments and still rich of open problems. It addres

Filtration in porous media and industrial application : lectures given at the 4th session of the Centro Internazionale Matematico Estivo (C.I.M.E.) held in Cetraro, Italy, August 24-29, 1998 by M. S Espedal( Book )

25 editions published between 2000 and 2007 in English and held by 499 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is devoted to the presentation of some flow problems in porous media having relevant industrial applications. The main topics covered are: the manufacturing of composite materials, the espresso coffee brewing process, the filtration of liquids through diapers, various questions about flow problems in oil reservoirs and the theory of homogenization. The aim is to show that filtration problems arising in very practical industrial context exhibit interesting and highly nontrivial mathematical aspects. Thus the style of the book is mathematically rigorous, but specifically oriented towards applications, so that it is intended for both applied mathematicians and researchers in various areas of technological interest. The reader is required to have a good knowledge of the classical theory of PDE and basic functional analysis

HEMOMATH : the mathematics of blood by Antonio Fasano( )

7 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 199 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book illustrates applications of mathematics to various processes (physiological or artificial) involving flowing blood, including hemorheology, microcirculation, coagulation, kidney filtration and dialysis, offering a historical overview of each topic. Mathematical models are used to simulate processes normally occurring in flowing blood and to predict the effects of dysfunctions (e.g. bleeding disorders, renal failure), as well as the effects of therapies with an eye to improving treatments. Most of the models have a completely new approach that makes patient-specific simulations possible. The book is mainly intended for mathematicians interested in medical applications, but it is also useful for clinicians such as hematologists, nephrologists, cardio-surgeons, and bioengineers. Some parts require no specific knowledge of mathematics. The book is a valuable addition to mathematics, medical, biology, and bioengineering libraries
Complex flows in industrial processes by Nicola Bellomo( Book )

10 editions published between 1999 and 2000 in English and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"For fluid dynamics and problems, there are many related industrial processes that require the study and application of new models for complex flow conditions and systems. The goal of this new edited book is to present a variety of industrial applications and models that address current work and results for some of these problems." "The book contains state-of-the-art surveys for select models and applications that offer the most illustrative use of new model analysis and applications. The chapters are organized into three broad categories: flows of non-linear materials, flows accompanied by thermal processes, and nonlinear flows in porous media."
Complex Flows in Industrial Processes by A Fasano( )

1 edition published in 2000 in English and held by 58 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For fluid dynamics and problems, there are many related industrial processes that require the study and application of new models for complex flow conditions and systems. The goals of this new edited book is to present a variety of industrial application and models that address current work and results for some of these problems. The book contains state-of-the-art surveys for select models and applications that offer the most illustrative use of new model analysis and application. The chapters are organized into three broad categories: flows of nonlinear materials, flow accompanied by thermal processes, and nonlinear flows in porous media. Topics and Features: * Polymer problems in extrusion * Modeling of glass problems * Pipelining of gases and slurries * Polymerization process * Thermally induced flows in polymers * Composite materials in manufacturing * Flows through active porous media The book is an essential resource and reference for the analysis and modeling of problems in fluid dynamics and filtration. All researchers, practitioners, and professionals in fluid dynamics, chemical process engineering, materials engineering, and applied math will find the book a useful presentation of current methods and applications
