How to improve your preaching by Bob Jones( Book )

3 editions published between 1945 and 1960 in English and held by 136 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Only gifts divinely given, carefully trained, and deeply consecrated, combined with an earnest study of God's Word and a great and burning zeal and passion, will make a man a great preacher. But it is not a man's responsibility to be a great preacher. It is his duty to be the best preacher he can be. To that end he should seek to develop his natural gifts, however limited, and pray earnestly for a full measure of that zeal without which knowledge is dead and for that love without which even the most eloquent of speakers becomes as "sounding brass and tinkling cymbals." - Foreword
Inspirational and devotional verse : 365 choice poems by Bob Jones( Book )

3 editions published between 1946 and 1956 in English and held by 65 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The great temptation which comes to the collector of poems for an anthology is to select only his own personal favorites. I have resisted that temptation to the extent of including in the present volume several score poems which have never appealed strongly to me personally, but which have, over a period of many years, proved generally popular. I have sought to select poems which arouse fragrant memories of the past, lighten sad hours, and lift man's thoughts heavenward. Most of the poems included herein have definite literary value. A few, I must confess, have not, but all have heart-appeal. Some are new and are printed here for the first time. Others have been out of print so long that they will seem new to many readers. Some will be recognized as old favorites. Others unfamiliar to the average reader will become old friends as they are read again and again and are treasured in the memory. In every case where it has been possible to ascertain authorship, proper acknowledgment has been made. We appreciate the cooperation of authors and publishers in granting permission to use copyrighted material. - Bob Jones, Jr. - Introduction
"As the small rain" by Bob Jones( Book )

3 editions published in 1945 in English and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

These articles, under the title "A Look at the Book," originally appeared in a syndicated column published in several hundred newspapers. It is conservatively estimated that in this form they have been read by several million people. From a great many of the columns appearing over a period of years the publishers have selected those included in this volume. Not only do they afford rich spiritual reading, but they also provide outlines, material and ideas for the construction of sermons and devotional messages. An appropriate poem in harmony with the theme of each article has been included. Together they offer interesting material for a brief radio broadcast. - Publisher's foreword

All fulness dwells by Bob Jones( Book )

2 editions published between 1942 and 1971 in English and held by 52 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

I make no claim that these are deep, expository sermons, but I do claim that they are scripturally founded. In each message I have sought to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. He is presented as the Incarnate Son of God, as the Saviour of the world, as the Risen Lord, as the Compassionate One, as the All-Sufficient One, as the One to whom our service is due, as the One who prepares a heavenly home for us, as the King, coming to reign in power over his creation. I have endeavored to keep Jesus Christ the central figure of each message. My desire is that in turning these pages you will behold Him in whom "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."--Foreword
Ancient truths for modern days : sermons on Old Testament subjects that particularly apply to our times by Bob Jones( Book )

2 editions published between 1963 and 1968 in English and held by 47 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To understand and appreciate fully these strong messages from the Old Testament by President Bob Jones, Jr., one needs to know the context of Bob Jones University, the "World's Most Unusual University." The culture, the strong Christian conviction, the character building of the army of young people in training there, either for full-time service for Christ or for Christian homes and citizenship, are largely the result of the character and impact of this university president. One finds a breadth of culture, an interest in art and literature, far beyond expectation. One will find at Bob Jones University a tremendous half-million-dollar collection of old masterpieces of religious art. Recently two performances of a grand opera were necessary to accommodate over 5,000 students, faculty, staff and townspeople who attended. The University regularly puts on great plays of Shakespeare, the directing, costumes and scenery challenging the greatest theaters: yet none of the students go on the professional stage! Dr. Jones, himself a noted Shakespearean scholar, has played the lead in nearly all the Shakespearean plays with an authority, insight and brilliance that led to flattering offers from Broadway and Hollywood which he declined in order to follow his illustrious father in a great ministry at the call of God. Here one finds a university leading its state and many more in teacher training, yet one with nearly a thousand men preparing for the ministry and missionary field. Here one finds a student body purposeful, united, eager to fill the big Rodeheaver auditorium for fine arts recitals, Shakespeare and grand opera, but even more eager to attend the Bible conferences. Dr. Jones' novel Wine of Morning was made into a Christian film by Unusual Films. This picture in which Dr. Jones played the part of Pilate was chosen to represent the universities of America in international competition and shown in Europe. He played the lead in the University's latest release, "Red Runs the River," which depicts the conversion of Confederate General Ewell in the Civil War. Dr. Jones planned most of the buildings on the $25 million campus. His writings include a number of books, poems, a hymn, a weekly syndicated article in many papers, and with all Dr. Jones is a fervent preacher of the gospel, a defender of the faith. These messages on Ancient Truths for Modern Days are tremendously important and greatly needed. I am grateful for the privilege of reading the manuscript and honored to be allowed to say a word of introduction for this good work of my dear friend, Dr. Jones. - John R. Rice - Introduction
Revealed religion : a series of paintings in the War Memorial Chapel by Benjamin West( Book )

2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The posthumous sale of West's works in 1829 included a number of the works on "Revealed Religion" commissioned by King George III. The pictures acquired for Joseph Neeld, M.P., were hung at Grittleton House, Chippenham, Wiltshire, where they remained until 1962 when they were offered for sale at Christie's on November 16. Six were acquired for Bob Jones University with funds provided for that purpose by a friend of the University who asked to remain anonymous. They were hung in the War Memorial Chapel together with a seventh canvas, "Esau and Jacob presented to Isaac," which also formed part of the Windsor Chapel decorations. This painting had been acquired from another source by Julius Weitzner, the London art dealer. Henry and Oscar Dwoskin purchased it for the University. - p. [4]-[5]
