Discourse Analysis beyond the Speech EventProvides a method for detailed examination of speech, writing and other communication Introduces students and researchers to the discourse analytic tools and techniques required to analyse the relationships between discourse events Offers explicit guidelines that direct the reader through different stages of discourse analytic research, including worked examples from conversation, magazines and social mediaIncorporates sample analyses from ethnographic, archival and new media data. Donatello, prophet of modern vision by Donatello( Book )

23 editions published between 1972 and 1974 in English and held by 571 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A few of the basic facts about Donatello's life can be put together, but we are left with distressing gaps. Even fewer inferences can be drawn from these facts. According to his own tax declarations of 1427 and 1433, Donato de Niccolo di Betto Bardi was born in 1386. A later declaration, made in 1457 when the artist was over seventy, sets his birthdate at 1382, but it was quite customary for old people in Florence to make themselves look even older on their tax records to enlist the sympathies of the fiscal officials and thus reduce their assessments. "Donatello" is a nickname, whose diminutive form may indicate the small stature of the sculptor. -- Introduction

Among the artists whose works are illustrated are Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Aristide Maillol, and Henry Moore: also included are masterworks by unknown or little-known artists whose astonishing work will bring both wonder and surprise. The photographs permit us to see something of the sculptor's creative process, as well as the qualities of presence, texture, and detail that give the finest sculpture its beauty and majesty. Accompanying the photographs is an illuminating essay by critic Vicki Goldberg, discussing how we look at sculpture and our various responses to the most tactile of the visual arts."--Jacket
