Crossick and Haupt provide a major overview of the social, economic, cultural and political development of the petite bourgeoisie in modern Europe, a group until now largely neglected by European social historians. Through comparative analysis the authors examine issues such as the centrality of small enterprise to industrial change, the importance of family and locality to the petit-bourgeois world, the search for stability and status and the associated political move to the right. Crossick and Haupt have written an invaluable and authoritative assessment of the emergence of a distinc

Qu'est-ce que l'histoire sociale ? by Geoffrey Crossick( Visual )

2 editions published in 2001 in French and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

African archaeology by D. W Phillipson( Book )

1 edition published in 1985 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Research in Africa is now accepted as an integral part of global archaeological studies. As well as providing archaeologists with the oldest material, Africa is also widely recognised as the birthplace of modern man and his characteristic cultural patterns. Archaeological study of later periods provides unique and valuable evidence for the development of African culture and society, while ongoing research in Africa provides insights relevant to the interpretation of the archaeological record in other parts of the world. In this fully revised and expanded edition of his seminal archaeological survey, David Phillipson presents a lucid and fully illustrated account of African archaeology from prehistory and the origins of humanity to the age of European colonisation. The work spans the entire continent from the Mediterranean to the Cape of Good Hope and demonstrates the relevance of archaeological research to the understanding of Africa today
The future is more than just tomorrow : higher education, the economy and the longer term by Geoffrey Crossick( Book )

2 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this commentary the author reflects on longer-term issues facing higher education in the context of recession and crisis in public finance. The views expressed are written from a personal perspective with the aim of stimulating and encouraging a wider and ongoing debate around the themes presented. The author draws upon the findings of three mini-reports, recently commissioned by Universities uk to consider some of the key consequences of the current economic climate: (1) Adapting business models in a changing environment considers how diversification of income streams has affected universities' activity to respond to the current economic and fiscal environment; (2) Changes in student choices and graduate employment considers the recessionary (and anticipated post-recessionary) trends in student choices and current and future graduate employability; and (3) The global picture considers how the reactions of national governments to recent economic developments have impacted on higher education sectors in main competitor countries.
