Informatics and medicine : an advanced course by P. L Reichertz( Book )

13 editions published in 1977 in English and German and held by 151 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The modern development of medicine has been characterized by the grow ing use of new technologies in health care delivery and research. As an empirical science, medicine is based on many types and quantities of information to recognize alterations, explore causes and apply cor rective action. Dealing with biological objects, signals have to be collected, processed and interpreted to recognize the state of this object. It is therefore understandable that data processing technology and informatics have been employed to a growing extent in medicine. The increasing economic repercussions of modern medicine lead also to the demand of ways and means to assess the system as such and to develop means for evaluation and regulation. However, the application of data processing to the medical field has very often grown in parallel to and remote from the development of in formatics and data processing in general. Furthermore, difficulties have occurred resulting from the differing concepts of reasoning, deci sion making and methodology. We therefore decided to start a series of seminars with the attempt to bring scientists from both medicine and informatics together to discuss basic principles of informatics and medicine and to attempt a synthesis between the problems in medicine and health care delivery and methods in informatics to approach a solu tion of these problems. This volume contains the lecture notes of the first seminar of this type
Informatik : eine einführende Übersicht by Friedrich Ludwig Bauer( Book )

18 editions published between 1971 and 1992 in German and Undetermined and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Informatik.

Co-ordination in Artificial Agent Societies Social Structures and Its Implications for Autonomous Problem-Solving Agents by Gerhard Goos( )

4 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 110 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This monograph provides a comprehensive survey of the different approaches to coordination in societies of artificial an human agents. Setting out from a critical assessment of the state of the art, the author develops a method of structuring multi-agent applications with a mechanism called structural cooperation. Agents are equipped with expertise about their environment in order to detect and overcome specific types of problem, they make use of their social knowledge to mutually adjust their activities, and they are coerced toward coherent collective behavior through normative rules. The proposed model is formalized theoretically within game theory and realized by means of an agent architecture. It is assessed experimentally by building a prototype of a distributed decision support system for road traffic management and compared to an alternative model based on a centralized architecture. A valuable feature of the work is that it not only promotes a well-founded formal model of coordination in artificial agent societies but also applies it in an operational software architecture organized as a society of intelligent agents to solve real-world problems

A Generative Theory of Shape by Gerhard Goos( )

2 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 102 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of the book is to develop a generative theory of shape that has two properties regarded as fundamental to intelligence - maximizing transfer of structure and maximizing recoverability of the generative operations. These two properties are particularly important in the representation of complex shape - which is the main concern of the book. The primary goal of the theory is the conversion of complexity into understandability. For this purpose, a mathematical theory is presented of how understandability is created in a structure. This is achieved by developing a group-theoretic approach to formalizing transfer and recoverability. To handle complex shape, a new class of groups is developed, called unfolding groups. These unfold structure from a maximally collapsed version of itself. A principal aspect of the theory is that it develops a group-theoretic formalization of major object-oriented concepts such as inheritance. The result is a mathematical language that brings interoperability into the very foundations of geometry. The book gives extensive applications of the theory to CAD/CAM, human and machine vision, robotics, software engineering, and physics. In CAD, lengthy chapters are presented on mechanical and architectural design. For example, using the theory of unfolding groups, the book works in detail through the main stages of mechanical CAD/CAM: part-design, assembly and machining. And within part-design, an extensive algebraic analysis is given of sketching, alignment, dimensioning, resolution, editing, sweeping, feature-addition, and intent-management. In robotics, several levels of analysis are developed for manipulator structure and kinematics. In software, a new theory is given of the principal factors such as text and class structure, object creation and modification, as well as inheritance and hierarchy prediction. In physics, a new theory is given of the conservation laws, and motion decomposition theorems in classical and quantum mechanics

Informatik : eine einführende Übersicht by Friedrich Ludwig Bauer( Book )

11 editions published between 1971 and 1991 in German and Undetermined and held by 88 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

XVIII, 393 S. 164 Abb., 16 Tab. u. zahlreichen Programmbeisp.
