36 editions published between 1981 and 2017 in English and Japanese and held by 609 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
'This book has two parts. Part 1 discusses the general principles involved in applying statistical methods. Part 2 consists of 24 sets of data chosen from a wide range of fields of application and employing statistical techniques ranging from simple descriptive methods to the fitting of relatively complicated models. The general considerations involved in the analysis of each set of data are discussed and the analysis described. Emphasis is placed on practical interpretation. The analyses in Part 2 serve partly to illustrate the general principles set out in Part 1, although both parts can be read independently'Back cover

Applied statistics : a handbook of BMDP analyses by
E. J Snell(
Book
)
36 editions published between 1981 and 1991 in 3 languages and held by 516 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This handbook is a realization of a long term goal of BMDP Statistical Software. As the software supporting statistical analysis has grown in breadth and depth to the point where it can serve many of the needs of accomplished statisticians it can also serve as an essential support to those needing to expand their knowledge of statistical applications. Statisticians should not be handicapped by heavy computation or by the lack of needed options. When Applied Statistics, Principle and Examples by Cox and Snell appeared we at BMDP were impressed with the scope of the applications discussed and felt that many statisticians eager to expand their capabilities in handling such problems could profit from having the solutions carried further, to get them started and guided to a more advanced level in problem solving. Who would be better to undertake that task than the authors of Applied Statistics? A year or two later discussions with David Cox and Joyce Snell at Imperial College indicated that a wedding of the problem statements and suggested solutions with control language to accomplish these analyses would further the learning process for many statisticians. They were willing to undertake the project. Joyce Snell has done an excellent job of melding the two approaches and has carried many of the problems a step further by suggesting alternate approaches and followup analyses

Analysis of binary data by
D. R Cox(
)
1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The first edition of this book (1970) set out a systematic basis for the analysis of binary data and in particular for the study of how the probability of 'success' depends on explanatory variables. The first edition has been widely used and the general level and style have been preserved in the second edition, which contains a substantial amount of new material. This amplifies matters dealt with only cryptically in the first edition and includes many more recent developments. In addition the whole material has been reorganized, in particular to put more emphasis on m.aximum likelihood methods.There are nearly 60 further results and exercises. The main points are illustrated by practical examples, many of them not in the first edition, and some general essential background material is set out in new Appendices
