During his short career, Koloman Moser became a towering figure in Viennese culture. His varied work in interior and graphic design, furniture, textiles, jewelry, metalwork, glass, and earthenware helped usher in the modern era. This book surveys the entirety of Moser's oeuvre. It examines his work as a graphic designer and his involvement with the Vienna Secession, with special focus given to his role as an illustrator for the journal 'Ver Sacrum (Sacred Spring)'. Moser's forays into textile design and ceramic work are also introduced. The book features his designs for the Vienna Secession, Thonet Brothers, and the Mautner family, among others that characterize his early modern style. The book also explores Moser's seminal role as a founding member of the Vienna Workshops, along with architect Josef Hoffmann and patron Fritz Waerndorfer.--

Wiener Werkstätte 1903-1932 : the luxury of beauty by Wiener Werkstätte( Book )

9 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 211 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Wiener Werkstätte, founded by Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, and Fritz Waerndorfer, was an artists' and craftsmen's collective that existed in Vienna from 1903 until 1932. The artists' goal was to bring high-quality design and craft into all areas of life and to elevate everyday objects into pieces of art. During that time, the collective produced items in a variety of media including ceramics, furniture, glass, jewelry, metalwork, and textiles. The Wiener Werkstätte style influenced generations of architects from Bauhaus to Art Deco. This book features the work of well-known Wiener Werkstätte members such as Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, and Dagobert Peche along with lesser known designers such as Gudrun Baudisch, Carl Otto Czeschka, and Ugo Zovetti. It also includes in-depth essays that explore the Wiener Werkstätte's long history and legacy
Wege der Moderne : Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos und die Folgen = Ways to modernism : Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos and their impact by Josef Hoffmann( Book )

15 editions published in 2015 in German and English and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The catalogue for the exhibition at the MAK (Austrian Museum for Applied Art/Contemporary Art in Vienna) focuses on two fundamental approaches of the Moderne movement in an antithetic comparison, including the preceding history and after-effects to this day: Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) and Adolf Loos (1870-1933) represent opposing reactions to the basic problems of modern civilization, which were triggered by the process of industrialization and democratization. Two different concepts for a modern way of life were created: Hoffmann promoted a comprehensive aestheticization of all spheres of life, while Loos interpreted architecture and design as the functional background for the development of individual personalities. 0In 16 essays, well-known European and American experts investigate a wide range of contributing conditions and the highlights and consequences of these two traditions of the Moderne movement, from the 19th century to the present. The key works of Hoffmann and Loos - as well as those of their predecessors such as Otto Wagner, and successors such as Josef Frank - are richly illustrated. 0Exhibition: MAK Vienna, Austria, (17.12.2014-19.04.2015)
Josef Hoffmann : interiors 1902-1913 : the making of an exhibition by Josef Franz Maria Hoffmann( Book )

6 editions published in 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 137 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This publication serves as a companion volume to Josef Hoffmann: Interiors, 1902-1913. It documents the installation of this extraordinary exhibition, which opened at the Neue Galerie New York in November 2006. Four entire Hoffmann rooms were recreated for the exhibition: a girl's bedroom from the Max Biach apartment (Vienna 1902); a bedroom from the Hans Salzer apartment (Vienna 1902); the dining room from the apartment of Jerome Stonborough and Margaret Stonborough-Wittgenstein (Berlin 1905); and the dining room from the apartment of the Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler (Geneva 1913)." "Christian Witt-Dorring, curator of decorative arts for the Neue Galerie, details the painstaking process of assembling materials for these interiors, both from an aesthetic and a practical standpoint. In the process, he reveals how a curator takes on the challenge of bringing the work of a major designer to life. The result is a publication that displays the work of Josef Hoffman as it was meant to be seen - in color and as a series of fully realized ensembles."--BOOK JACKET
