Atomic and molecular processes by David R Bates( Book )

22 editions published between 1958 and 2016 in English and Italian and held by 756 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Atomic and Molecular Processes focuses on radiative and collisional processes involving atoms or molecules, including photoionization, elastic and inelastic scattering of electrons, energy loss by slow electrons, excitation, ionization, detachment, charge transfer, elastic scattering, and chemical reactions. The selection first offers information on forbidden and allowed transitions, including forbidden transitions in diatomic molecular spectra; forbidden transitions in crystals; calculations of atomic line strengths; and measurements of atomic transition probabilities. The book also ponders on photoionization processes, photodetachment, and high temperature shock waves. The manuscript elaborates on electronic and ionic recombination, elastic scattering of electrons, and the motions of slow electrons in gases. The book also evaluates the theory of excitation and ionization by electron impact; measurement of collisional excitation and ionization cross sections; and spectral line broadening in plasmas. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in atomic and molecular processes

The planet earth by David R Bates( Book )

40 editions published between 1957 and 2016 in 3 languages and held by 688 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Planet Earth, Second Edition focuses on the advances in geophysical sciences and fundamental laws of nature. This edition introduces a new chapter (Chapter 17), which discusses Van Allen radiation belts. The rest of the chapters have also been modified and updated with additions on the work and achievements of the International Geophysical Year (IGY); Mohole project; continental drift and polar wandering; exosphere; state of the theory of magnetic storms and aurorae; and possibility of extra-terrestrial sources of life. Topics also deliberated in this book include origin, age, and poss

Atomic processes and applications : in honour of David R. Bates' 60th birthday( Book )

7 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 276 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Atomic Processes and Applications is a collection of review articles that discusses major atomic and molecular processes and their applications to upper atmospheric physics and to astrophysics. The book also serves as a 60th birthday tribute to Dr. David R. Bates. The coverage of the text includes the overview of stratospheric aeronomy; upper atmosphere of the earth; and problems in atmospheric pollution. The book also deals with technical and highly specialized issues including photoionization of atomic systems; atomic structure and oscillator strengths; and atomic scattering computations
The earth as a planet by Gerard P Kuiper( Book )

1 edition published in 1954 in English and held by 257 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume of the Solar system series is intended to cover those aspects of geophysics, geochemistry, and atmospheric physics as pertain to the earth as a whole and which are able to assist and guide the studies of other planets

Advances in atomic, molecular, and optical physics by Benjamin Bederson( )

18 editions published between 1992 and 1993 in English and Italian and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This series, established in 1965, addresses recent developments in the general area of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The field is in a state of rapid growth, as new experimental and theoretical techniques are brought to bear on many old and new problems. Such problems range from studies of the fundamental properties of radiation and matter, through studies of hitherto inaccesible states of "ordinary" and exotic atoms and molecules, the control of atoms and molecules by light, the behaviour of atoms and molecules in intense radiation fields, the detailed structure of such systems, including complex molecules and molecular clusters, and a wide range of interaction phenomena among atoms, molecules, and their constituent parts and fields. Topics covered also include related applied areas, such as atmospheric science, astrophysics, surface physics, and laser physics
Recent studies in atomic and molecular processes by Arthur E Kingston( Book )

7 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 166 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sir David Bates celebrated his seventieth birthday on the 18th November 1986. To mark this event a conference was held in the David Bates building at The Queen's University of Belfast on the 17th and 18th November 1986. At this conference ex-students and colleagues of Sir David, who are acknowledged world experts in their field of research, gave in depth reviews of a particular area of atomic and molecular physics. This book on the conference presents a unique account of recent studies in atomic and molecular processes in a wide range of research fields. This volume is dedicated to Sir David by his friends as a token of their affection and respect. It is hoped that it will provide a useful summary of current research in atomic and molecular physics and that it will also show the great contribution which Sir David made to atomic and molecular physics. This conference was supported by the USAF European Office of Aerospace Research and Development who we wish to thank for their generous support. Arthur E. Quantum theory by David R Bates( )

24 editions published between 1961 and 2014 in English and held by 144 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Quantum Theory, III: Radiation and High Energy Physics focuses on the fundamentals and applications of quantum theory. The selection first offers information on relativistic wave equations and noncovariant quantum theory of radiation, including the Dirac equation, Klein-Gordon equation, semiclassical theory, quantum theory of the radiation field, and general electromagnetic fields. The text then takes a look at the covariant theory of radiation, as well as the relativistic quantum field theory, free electromagnetic field, electron and electromagnetic fields in interaction, and solution of the
