PCT, spin and statistics, and all that by R. F Streater( )

62 editions published between 1964 and 2016 in English and held by 1,659 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"PCT, Spin and Statistics, and All That is the classic summary of and introduction to the achievements of Axiomatic Quantum Field Theory. This theory gives precise mathematical responses to questions like: What is a quantized field? What are the physically indispensable attributes of a quantized field? Furthermore, Axiomatic, Field Theory shows that a number of physically important predictions of quantum field theory are mathematical consequences of the axioms. Here Raymond Streater and Arthur Wightman treat only results that can be rigorously proved, and these are presented in an elegant style that makes them available to a broad range of physics and theoretical mathematics."--BOOK JACKET
Statistical dynamics : a stochastic approach to nonequilibrium thermodynamics by R. F Streater( )

31 editions published between 1994 and 2014 in English and held by 925 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

How can one construct dynamical systems obeying the first and second laws of thermodynamics that mean energy is conserved and entropy increases with time? This book answers the question for both classical probability and quantum probability
A theory of scattering for quasifree particles by R. F Streater( )

12 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and held by 857 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this book, the author presents the theory of quasifree quantum fields and argues that they could provide non-zero scattering for some particles. The free-field representation of the quantised transverse electromagnetic field is not closed in the weak*-topology. Its closure contains soliton-anti-soliton pairs as limits of two-photon states as time goes to infinity, and the overlap probability can be computed using Uhlmann's prescription. There are no free parameters: the probability is determined with no requirement to specify any coupling constant. All cases of the Shale transforms of the free field [symbol] of the form [symbols], where [symbol] is not in the one-particle space, are treated in the book. There remain the cases of the Shale transforms of the form [symbol], where T is a symplectic map on the one-particle space, not near the identity
Lost causes in and beyond physics by R. F Streater( )

19 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 571 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Lost Causes in and beyond Physics deals with a selection of research topics mostly from theoretical physics that have been shown to de a dead-end or continue at least to be highly controversial. Nevertheless, whether it is about Bohmian Mechanics, Physics from Fisher Information or the quantum theory of the brain, small but dedicated research communities continue to work on these issues. In this book, RF Streater describes their work and struggle as well as the chances of any breakthrough in these areas. This book is written as both an entertainment and serious study and should be accessible to anyone with a background in theoretical physics and mathematics."--Jacket
The theory of spinors by Elie Cartan( Book )

10 editions published between 1966 and 1981 in English and held by 501 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The French mathematician Élie Cartan (1869-1951) was one of the founders of the modern theory of Lie groups, a subject of central importance in mathematics and also one with many applications. In this volume, he describes the orthogonal groups, either with real or complex parameters including reflections, and also the related groups with indefinite metrics. He develops the theory of spinors (he discovered the general mathematical form of spinors in 1913) systematically by giving a purely geometrical definition of these mathematical entities; this geometrical origin makes it very easy to introduce spinors into Riemannian geometry, and particularly to apply the idea of parallel transport to these geometrical entities. The book is divided into two parts. The first is devoted to generalities on the group of rotations in n-dimensional space and on the linear representations of groups, and to the theory of spinors in three-dimensional space. Finally, the linear representations of the group of rotations in that space (of particular importance to quantum mechanics) are also examined. The second part is devoted to the theory of spinors in spaces of any number of dimensions, and particularly in the space of special relativity (Minkowski space). While the basic orientation of the book as a whole is mathematical, physicists will be especially interested in the final chapters treating the applications of spinors in the rotation and Lorentz groups. In this connection, Cartan shows how to derive the "Dirac" equation for any group, and extends the equation to general relativity. One of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century, Cartan made notable contributions in mathematical physics, differential geometry, and group theory. Although a profound theorist, he was able to explain difficult concepts with clarity and simplicity. In this detailed, explicit treatise, mathematicians specializing in quantum mechanics will find his lucid approach a great value

Lost Causes in Physics by R. F Streater( )

7 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 43 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lost Causes in and Beyond Physics deals with a selection of research topics mostly from theoretical physics that have been shown to be a dead-end or continue at least to be highly controversial. Nevertheless, whether it is about Bohmian mechanics, physics from Fisher information or the quantum theory of the brain, small but dedicated research communities continue to work on these issues. R.F. Streater, renowned mathematical physicist and co-author of the famous book "PCT, Spin and Statistics, and all that", in a series of essays describes the work and struggle of these research commnities, as well as the chances of any breakthrough in these areas. This book is written as both an entertainment and serious study and should be accessible to anyone with a background in theoretical physics and mathematics
