A sentimental journey through France and Italy by Laurence Sterne( Book )

37 editions published between 1967 and 1987 in English and held by 182 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The quintessential novel of sentiment, A Sentimental Journey masquerades as the fragmentary travel journal of Parson Yorick, a whimsical and amorous Englishman abroad. Accompanied through Paris and the provinces by his loyal French valet, Yorick enjoys a variety of sentimental and often comic encounters with a lively range of French characters. The novel is also punctuated by passages of self-conscious reflection on questions of personal and national identity, slavery and freedom, poverty and inequality

A surrealistic novel on a fishing village whose inhabitants are involved in a conflict with a scientific institute. The inhabitants release their souls at night so they can travel to an offshore island to hold meetings, but the institute has erected nets to trap the souls. The Ontario Review called it "an imaginary landscape of inscrutable logic that is as insistent as a nightmare."
The siege by Graham Petrie( Book )

2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 156 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A shell strikes a cathedral during a war to reveal a medieval fresco of the Last Judgment, painted by a heretical nun. On hearing the news, Dorothy Everest, an art historian in England, travels to the country in question and discovers the painting mirrors the present war's atrocities. It seems nothing has changed over the centuries in man's ability to be cruel to his fellow man. The country is unnamed, but resembles Yugoslavia. By the author of Seahorse
The life & opinions of Tristram Shandy, gentleman by Laurence Sterne( Book )

5 editions published between 1970 and 2005 in English and held by 85 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

At once endlessly facetious and highly serious, Sterne's great comic novel contains some of the best-known and best-loved characters in English literature--including Uncle Toby, Corporal Trim, Parson Yorick, and Dr. Slop--and boasts one of the most innovative and whimsical narrative styles in all literature. This revised edition of Sterne's extraordinary novel retains the text based on the first editions of the original nine volumes (with Sterne's later changes), adds two illustrations by William Hogarth, and expands and updates the introduction, bibliography, and notes, to make this the most critically up-to-date edition available. The text of the novel preserves, as far as possible, the appearance of Sterne's idiosyncratic typography and features such as black pages, marbled pages, blank pages, missing chapters and other devices. The introduction sheds light on the novel's innovations and influence and provides a biographical account of the author. Comprehensive notes identify the profusion of references and reveal previously overlooked sources. - Publisher

"Paralleling the dramatic student protests and riots that were exploding across the world in the 1960s when the film was made, The Confrontation is a story of rebellion in Hungary in 1947, after the Communist Party had just taken power. Told in an operatic but supremely naturalistic style with songs of revolution used to punctuate the narrative and shot in long fluid takes, The Confrontation combines a radical aesthetic with radical politics to become a film as revolutionary in form as it is in subject."--Publisher's website
