Dolores, a beautiful girl without a family, serves at an inn of Daroca. She comes to know a student named Lázaro, who offers protection and takes her to Calatayud and is able to find her work at an inn owned by his aunt. Talk of Dolores' beauty and affection spreads throughout the region, and many come to court her, giving rise to fights and incidents. A song is penned that says "If you go to Calataud, ask for Dolores, a handsome girl and a friend to make 'favors'." The inn prospers at the cost of Dolores' honor, and she must undergo the abuses of those who think the song reflects reality. Lázaro defends her against all who defame her and, in the end, his love prevails over those who slander her
