Constructing local theologies by Robert J Schreiter( Book )

31 editions published between 1977 and 2015 in 5 languages and held by 700 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the thirty years since Constructing Local Theologies first appeared, it has been the basic handbook for anyone interested in understanding the theological implications of cultural pluralism. While the themes of inculturation and contextualization have been increasingly familiar, the insights of this groundbreaking work remain startlingly fresh and original. The proliferation of local theologies and the emergence of voices from the margins continue to challenge traditional assumptions that the theology of the dominant culture is universal and undetermined by context

In Schreiter's view, a deep irony, perhaps even a paradox, is concealed within the riddle of globalization. Such forces as feminist, liberation, ecological, and global theological movements find their counterparts in antiglobalism, ethnification, and primitivism. Liberation thought in a post-Soviet world seeks to be more realistic about economics but finds "reformist gradualism" a bitter pill to swallow. Intercultural theologies find analogous difficulties when they attend to "integrated" as opposed to "globalized" concepts of culture. The seeming polar opposition of [bad] "syncretism" and [good] "synthesis" in the context of changing religious identities end up much less amenable to simple value judgments than they once appeared to be

In 2002 Philip Jenkins wrote The Next Christendom . Over the past half century the centre of gravity of the Christian world has moved decisively to the global South, says Jenkins. Within a few decades European and Euro-American Christians will have become a small fragment of world Christianity. By that time Christianity in Europe and North America will to a large extent consist of Southern-derived immigrant communities. Southern churches will fulfil neither the Liberation Dream nor the Conservative Dream of the North, but will seek their own solutions to their particular problems. Jenkins' boo
Mission as ministry of reconciliation( Book )

5 editions published between 2013 and 2016 in English and held by 81 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

There is hope – even if it is “Hope in a Fragile World”, as the concluding chapter of Mission as Ministry of Reconciliation puts it. At the very heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ is a message of hope and reconciliation. Nothing could be more relevant and more necessary in a broken world than this Christian message of hope and reconciliation. This rich book offers a valuable elucidation of the importance and the understanding of mission as ministry of reconciliation. It expounds its practical implications in a variety of settings. It unites perspectives from different church traditions, including the Lausanne Movement and the Catholic Church. It takes the interfaith aspect into account and also speaks about the socio-ethical implications of mission
