Characteristics of seismic effect of underground explosions (osobennosti seismicheskogo effekta kamufletnykh vzryvov)( Book )

1 edition published in 1967 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The seismic effect of underground explosions in plastic argillaceous ground was investigated. In the first series of experiments, the dependence of ground motion on the amount of charge (q) and the distance (r) was analyzed; at this depth the strength and stability of the ground at the epicenter is not affected by the explosion. Records of the ground motion as a function of h show the presence of two types of oscillations. The same groups of waves, always observed independently of the amount of charge and h, made it possible to obtain travel-time curves for the first arrivals and characteristic phases. The second series of experiments conducted to obtain more precisely the dependence of ground motion on h. The ratio of amplitudes of surface waves did not remain constant. Formulas were derived for the ground-motion velocity of body and surface waves as a function of h, q, and r for reduced distance. Investigations were also conducted by placing three-component seismic receivers at depths of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 m in a shaft 1 m wide and 25 m deep. (Author)
Directional seismic effect of dispersed single-row blasts( Book )

1 edition published in 1970 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The seismic effect of scattered charges, instantaneously detonated, has been investigated. Charges of equal weight were detonated in equally spaced holes arranged in a row. The number of charges in an array and the spacing between holes were varied, but the total weight of charges was kept constant. Effects of the charges were measured at various distances, and it was found that the seismic effect is lower along the extended line of charges than in a direction at right angles to it. The velocity of particle movement at points along the extended line was found to lie between a lower limit corresponding to one of the single charges in the spread and an upper limit corresponding to the total charge concentrated at one point. For points at right angles to the line of holes, at moderate distances, the particle velocity was found to be equal to or greater than that due to an explosion of the total charge at a single point. Change in velocity with distance produces a curve similar to that for concentrated charges. (Author)
Ground Vibrations during Camouflet Blasts( Book )

1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Ground vibrations in the study of seismic effect to date are measured mainly by exploding for heave or for loosening. Camouflet blasting, which only recently became used for practical purposes, was not included in seismographic observations. Therefore, the wave pattern and vibration intensity as a function of the depth of a charge were studied only in a relatively narrow interval of depths. (Author)
