Deformation of ceramic materials II by Richard E Tressler( Book )

11 editions published in 1984 in English and held by 237 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume "Deformation of Ceramic Materials II" constitutes the proceedings of an international symposium held at The Pennsyl vania State University, University Park, PA on July 20, 21, and 22, 1983. It includes studies of semiconductors and minerals which are closely related to ceramic materials. The initial conference on this topic was held in 1974 at Penn State and the proceedings were published in the volume entitled "Deformation of Ceramic Materials." This conference emphasized the deformation behavior of crystals and po1ycrysta11ine and polyphase ceramics with internationally recognized authorities as keynote lecturers on the major subtopics. Several papers dealing with cavity nucleation and creep crack growth represent a major new research thrust in ceramics since the first conference. This collection of papers represents the state-of-the art of our understanding of the plastic deformation behavior of ceramics and the crystals of which they are composed. We are grateful for the suggestions of our International Advisory Committee .in recommending experts in their respective countries to participate. We are particularly grateful that the organizers of the previous Dislocation-Point Defect Interaction Workshops agreed to participate in the Penn State Symposium as an alternative at the suggestion of Prof. A. H. Heuer. We acknowledge the financial support of the National Science Foundation for this conference
Tailoring multiphase and composite ceramics by Richard E Tressler( Book )

11 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 227 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The proceedings of the Twenty-First University Conference on Ceramic Science held at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA on July 17, 18 and 19, 1985 are compiled in this volume "Tailoring Multiphase and Composite Ceramics". This Conference emphasized the' discussion and analysis of the properties of multiphase ceramic materials in which the microstructure is deliberately tailored for specific applications or properties. Inter nationally recognized authorities presented keynote and invited lectures on topics dealing with processing and fabrication of multiphase and com posite electroceramics, fiber reinforced composites and high temperature multiphase ceramics. Results of recent research were presented in oral and poster sessions by leading researchers from several countries. This collection of papers represents the state of the art in our understand ing of the processing-structure-property interrelationships for these materials which possess unique and useful electrical, magnetic, optical, mechanical and thermal properties as a result of their multiphase nature. We are grateful for the financial support of the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the Air Force Office of Scien tific Research, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for this conference. We gratefully acknowledge Prof. Robert Davis' leader ship role in steering and expanding this university conference series on ceramic science. We thank Ron Avillion and Linda Rose for their expert assistance in planning and coordinating the meeting. Thanks are due to Ms. Marian Reed, Ms. Judy Bell and Ms
Deformation of ceramic materials : [proceedings of a Symposium on Plastic Deformation of Ceramic Materials held at the Pennsylvania State University, July 17-19, 1974] by R. C Bradt( Book )

13 editions published between 1975 and 2000 in English and held by 219 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume constitutes the Proceedings of a Symposium on the Plastic Deformation of Ceramic Materials, held at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, July 17, 18, and 19, 1974. The theme of this conference focused on single crystal and polycrystalline deformation processes in ceramic materials. The 31 contributed papers by 52 authors, present a current understand ing of the theory and application of deformation processes to the study and utilization of ceramic materials. The program chairmen gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance for the Symposium provided by the United States Atomic Energy Commission, The National Science Foundation, and The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences of The Pennsylvania State University. Special acknowledgment is extended to Drs. Louis C. Ianniello and Paul K. Predecki of the AEC and NSF, respectively. Of course, the proceedings would not have been possible without the excellent cooperation of the authors in preparing their manuscripts. Special appreciation is extended to the professional organi zation services provided by the J. Orvis Keller Conference Center of The Pennsylvania State University. In particular, Mrs. Patricia Ewing should be acknowledged for her excellent program organization and planning. Finally, we also wish to thank our secretaries for the patience and help in bringing these Proceedings to press
Fractography of glass by R. C Bradt( Book )

9 editions published between 1994 and 2013 in English and held by 178 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As the first major reference on glass fractography, contributors to this volume offer a comprehensive account of the fracture of glass as well as various fracture surface topography. Contributors discuss optical fibers, glass containers, and flatglass fractography. In addition, papers explore fracture origins; the growth of the original flaws of defects; and macroscopic fracture patterns from which fracture patterns evolve. This volume is complete with photographs and schematics

2 editions published between 1985 and 1986 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Tailoring Multiphase Ceramics Conference emphasized the discussion and analysis of the properties of multiphase ceramic materials in which the microstructure is deliberately tailored for specific applications or properties. A number of internationally recognized authorities presented keynote and invited lectures on topics dealing with processing and fabrication of multiphase and composite ceramics, multiphase electroceramics, fiber and whisker reinforced composites, and high temperature multiphase ceramics. The results of recent research were presented in oral and poster sessions by leading researchers from several countries. (Author)

Plastic Deformation of C-Axis Sapphire Filaments by Richard E Tressler( Book )

3 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The yielding and flow behavior in uniaxial, constant strain rate tensile tests of single crystal sapphire filaments oriented with the tensile axis parallel to the filament axis was studied in the temperature range from 1760C to 1875C. The existence of a strain-ageing effect leading to non-reproducible upper yield points was established. The flow stress followed a power law dependence on strain rate with stress exponents ranging from 8.50 at 1775C to 12.4 at 1875C. The apparent activation enthalpies calculated from constant temperature experiments reflect a flow stress dependence on temperature which includes both substructure and deformation mechanism temperature dependencies. The preliminary activation enthalpies calculated from differential planes are identified as the dominant slip planes with the 1/3 <-1,1,0,1> Burgers vectors inferred from the testing geometry.
