Social costs today : institutional analyses of the present crises by Wolfram Elsner( )

11 editions published between 2012 and 2016 in English and held by 586 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book deals with the current crises from a somewhat different the usual perspectives. It claims that causes and policy implications of these crises cannot be properly assessed by focusing on allocative efficiency or income growth alone; it requires a more general approach, based on social costs. It does not deal with social costs according to the Pigouvian or the Coasian traditions. It draws on the work of Original Institutional Economics (OIE) such as Thorstein Veblen, Karl William Kapp, and Karl Polanyi, on Post-Keynesians such as Hyman Minsky and, in general, on authors who have provide
Institutional analysis and praxis : the social fabric matrix approach by Tara Natarajan( )

11 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 470 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Social Fabric Matrix Approach (SFM-A) is a rigorous and holistic methodology for undertaking policy-relevant, complex systems research. This book contains both extensive applications of the SFM-A to contemporary issues and chapters that embed applied research in relevant theoretical, philosophical, and methodological frameworks. It offers a balance of applications through case studies across regions and topics that span areas of finance, development, education, and environment, to name a few. This book creates new ways of using the SFM and forges previously unexplored connections between institutional economics and other areas of study such as financial markets, micro credit, political economy and sustainable development, thus contextually refining the SFM-A. This book complements F. Gregory Hayden's Policymaking for a Good Society: The Social Fabric Matrix Approach to Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation. "Institutional Analysis and Praxis: The Social Fabric Matrix Approach ... is interesting and thought-provoking. The book should fill or create a good size niche in modeling the effects of economic and social institutions on development, in part because it includes values directly in the model."--Glen Atkinson, University of Nevada, Reno "The book is concerned with a demonstration of the methodological and analytical importance of the Social Fabric Matrix (SFM) and its application to a wide variety of real-world policy problems. As such, it is the first book of its kind, drawing on the contributions of economic scholars who are doing pioneering work in the application of the SFM to economic policy problems. It is, in short, a ground-breaking enterprise." - Paul Bush, CSU Fresno " [This book] offers a fresh perspective, as this is the first contribution that would underscore Hayden's contribution ... The editors have assembled one of the finest collections of contemporary Institutionalist thinkers that appears to have been assembled." - John Hall, Portland State University
The microeconomics of complex economies : evolutionary, institutional, neoclassical, and complexity perspectives by Wolfram Elsner( )

17 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and held by 335 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Microeconomics of Complex Economies uses game theory, modeling approaches, formal techniques, and computer simulations to teach useful, accessible approaches to real modern economies. It covers topics of information and innovation, including national and regional systems of innovation; clustered and networked firms; and open-source/open-innovation production and use. Its final chapter on policy perspectives and decisions confirms the value of the toolset. Written so chapters can be used independently, the book includes an introduction to computer simulation and pedagogical supplements. Its formal, accessible treatment of complexity goes beyond the scopes of neoclassical and mainstream economics. The highly interdependent economy of the 21st century demands a reconsideration of economic theories.--

Geburtstag von Siegfried Katterle by Wolfram Elsner( )

8 editions published between 1998 and 2017 in German and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Principles and pluralist approaches in teaching economics : towards a transformative science by Samuel Decker( )

This volume is a state-of-the-art compilation of diverse and innovative perspectives, principles, and a number of practiced approaches of fields, courses, and methods of pluralist economics teaching. It fosters constructive controversy aiming to incite authors and commentators to engage in fruitful debate. The complex economic problems of the 21st century require a pluralist, real-world oriented, and innovative discipline of economics, capable of addressing and teaching those complex issues to students from diverse perspectives. This volume addresses a number of key questions: Which models could be taught outside the equilibrium and optimality paradigm? Which methods could help to improve our understanding of the complex globalized economy? How can qualitative and quantitative methods be combined in a fruitful way to analyze complex economic problems? How can the academic isolation of mainstream economics that has developed over many decades be overcome, despite its attempted transdisciplinary imperialism? What role should knowledge from other disciplines play in teaching economics, and what is the relevance of transdisciplinarity? Through examining these issues, the editors and authors have created a pluralist but cohesive book on teaching economics in the contemporary classroom, drawing from ideas and examples from around the world. Principles and Pluralist Approaches in Teaching Economics is a unique collection of diverse perspectives on the methodology and applications of pluralist economics teaching. It will be a great resource for those teaching economics at various levels as well as researchers and intermediate and advanced students searching for pluralism in economics
