The end of the 20th century : the best is yet to come : [a dialogue with the Marx Collection]( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 85 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The idea of the future, which has survived - or perhaps even assimilated - history's disappointments and aberrations, constitutes the starting point of the Hamburger Bahnhof's forthcoming special exhibition. Focusing its gaze on the beguiling horizon of the "not yet", the exhibition takes both its cue and its title from Joseph Beuys' sculpture "The End of the 20th Century" (first version). Back in the early 1980s, when the much longed for and fearfully awaited end of the 20th century was still a thing of the future, Beuys assembled the sculpture's 21 recumbent basalt steles, pallet jack and crowbar into one of the most powerful prognostic pieces of our times. The exhibition is set to unfold within a series of ten sections which address, expand or contest Beuys' formulation of the future. 0Exhibition: Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany (14.9.2013-30.3.2014)

Enter exit by Pierre Crocquet( Book )

3 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In Enter Exit Pierre Crocquet has provided a snapshot of the surreal reality of a small community in his native South Africa. In his empathic portraits he has incorporated the biography of each individual with whom he has become familiar over a period of time. The images are at times austere but are always tenderly portrayed. The work shocks, engages, and lingers." "South Africa today is a society that has seen dramatic changes in its history, with a particular irony evident in today's post-apartheid society, where division is still evident, but is now set primarily along economic lines. The social and personal consequences of economic polarisation can be transported to any other postmodern society. We become an integral part of the story."--BOOK JACKET

Capital : debt territory utopia( Book )

3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The banking, financial and euro crises that shook the European and international markets in recent years have made it more necessary than ever to address the relationship between humans and capital. A special exhibition on this theme has been staged by the contemporary arts museum Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof -- Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin under the title "Capital. Debt -- Territory -- Utopia", for which we provide a comprehensive catalogue. Displaying works by some 40 contemporary international artists in addition to selected artworks and artefacts from antiquity to the present, the show explores people's ideas of value throughout the ages. Joseph Beuys' key work Das Kapital Raum 1970--1977, created in 1980 for the Venice Biennale, occupies a central place in the exhibition as it perfectly captures Beuys' redefinition of capital. For Beuys, it is not money but rather the creative potential of people that constitutes value: "art = capital". The book investigates the changing definition of capital in three chapters. The first chapter entitled "Debt" argues that debt (especially the inherited debt of original sin in a religious sense) predates money and is more elementary than the latter. The second chapter is headed "Territory" and explores the connections between capital and the discovery and conquest of global space beginning in the early modern period. The third and final chapter entitled "Utopia" questions Beuys' positive idea of capital that is based on creativity
