Bits of life : feminism at the intersections of media, bioscience, and technology by Anneke Smelik( )

12 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 1,237 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Bits of Life assumes a posthuman definition of the body. It is grounded in questions about today's biocultures, which pertain neither to humanist bodily integrity nor to the anthropological assumption that human bodies are the only ones that matter. Editors Anneke Smelik and Nina Lykke aid in mapping changes and transformations and in striking a middle road between the metaphor and the material. In exploring current reconfigurations of bodies and embodied subjects, the contributors pursue a technophilic yet critical path, while articulating new and thoroughly appraised ethical standards."--Jacket
Between monsters, goddesses, and cyborgs : feminist confrontations with science, medicine, and cyberspace by Nina Lykke( Book )

14 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 401 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This important book shows that feminists cannot ignore either the emancipatory or the oppressive potential of technological progress. Bringing together 'natural' and 'social' scientists, the book paves the way for a specifically feminist strategy for science, technology, and health care. As such, it is vital reading for students, academics and activists in women's studies, cultural studies, the philosophy and social studies of science, health and the environment

Cosmodolphins : feminist cultural studies of technology, animals, and the sacred by Mette Bryld( Book )

12 editions published between 1999 and 2000 in English and held by 276 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Applying recent thinking on gender and the environment to original research in science and technology, this unique book explores postcolonial relationships with 'the wild' using the US and Russia as examples. The authors analyse contemporary categorizations of 'human self' versus 'wild other' through three twentieth century icons that best illustrate ambivalent ideas about self and other: spaceships, horoscopes and dolphins." "Theoretically innovative, this book represents an alternative approach to ecofeminist themes linking them up with studies of new technocultures and cyborgs. It forms an excellent exemplar of feminist cultural studies."--BOOK JACKET

Assisted reproduction across borders : feminist perspectives on normalizations, disruptions and transmissions by Merete Lie( )

11 editions published between 2016 and 2017 in English and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume reflects on the state of the art of ARTs. From feminist perspectives, the contributors focus on contemporary political debates triggered by ARTs. They examine the varying ways in which ARTs are interpreted and practised in different contexts, depending on religious, moral and political approaches. Assisted Reproduction Across Borders embeds feminist analysis of ARTs across a wide variety of countries and cultural contexts, discussing controversial practices such as surrogacy from the perspective of the global South as well as the global North as well as inequalities in terms of access to IVF. This volume will appeal to scholars and students of anthropology, ethnography, philosophy, political science, history, sociology, film studies, media studies, literature, art history, area studies, and interdisciplinary areas such as gender studies, cultural studies, and postcolonial studies
Writing academic texts differently : intersectional feminist methodologies and the playful art of writing by Nina Lykke( Book )

6 editions published between 2014 and 2016 in English and German and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This edited volume combines cutting-edge research on feminist and intersectional writing methodologies with explorations of links between academic and creative writing practices. Contributors discuss what it means for academic writing processes to explore intersectional in-between spaces between monolithic identity markers and power differentials such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and nationality. How does such a frame change academic writing? How does it make it pertinent to explore new synergies between academic and creative writing? In answer to these questions, the book offers theories, methodologies, political and ethical considerations, as well as reflections on writing strategies. Suggestions for writing exercises, developed against the background of the contributors' individual and joint teaching practices, will inspire readers to engage in alternative writing practices themselves"--

Sexuality, gender and power : intersectional and transnational perspectives by Anna G. Jónasdóttir( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Underpinned by a broad editorial commitment to intersectionality, the chapters deploy approaches that range from historical materialism to queer theory, and from contract theory to theories of the gendered sexual self to address recurrent questions around agency, power, identity and self-hood. Theoretical debates inform and are informed by more empirically oriented chapters focusing on topics such as gay identity in contemporary Croatia, sexual politics in the Commonwealth Caribbean, western "tango tourists," sexual violence in war, prostitution, femme fashion, changing sexual norms in China and Taiwan, and feminist politics in the 2008 US presidential campaign."--Pub. desc

Orgien, og andre fortellinger by Nina Lykke( Book )

1 edition published in 2010 in Norwegian and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
