Relativistic celestial mechanics - investigating the motion celestial bodies in general relativity - is a major tool of modern experimental gravitational physics. With a wide range of prominent authors from the field, this two-volume series consists of reviews on a multitude of advanced topics in the area of relativistic celestial mechanics which cover a wide range of topics from more canonical - such as equations of motion of N-body system in asymptotically-flat spacetime, light propagation and celestial ephemerides - to progressive interdisciplinary studies in gravitational wave astronomy, cosmology and alternative theories of gravity as well as modern experiments for testing general theory of relativity. Volume 1 is concerned with theoretical foundations such as post-Newtonian solutions to the two-body problem, light propagation through time-dependent gravitational fields, as well as cosmological effects on the movements of bodies in various astrophysical systems. Volume 2 covers applications of the theory as well as experimental verifications. From tools to determine light travel times in curved space-time to laser ranging between earth and moon and between satellites, and impacts on the definition of time scales and clock comparison techniques, a variety of effects is discussed. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, these two volumes honor V.A. Brumberg - one of the pioneers in modern relativistic celestial mechanics
Analytical techniques of celestial mechanics by V. A Brumberg( Book )

15 editions published in 1995 in English and German and held by 298 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The aim of this book is to describe contemporary analytical and semiƯ analytical techniques for solving typical celestial-mechanics problems. The word "techniques" is used here as a term intermediate between "methods" and "recipes". One often conceives some method of solution of a problem as a general mathematical tool, while not taking much care with its computaƯ tional realization. On the other hand, the word "recipes" may nowadays be understood in the sense of the well-known book Numerical Recipes (Press et al., 1992), where it means both algorithms and their specific program realizaƯ tion in Fortran, C or Pascal. Analytical recipes imply the use of some general or specialized computer algebra system (CAS). The number of different CAS currently employed in celestial mechanics is too large to specify just a few of the most preferable systems. Besides, it seems reasonable not to mix the essence of any algorithm with its particular program implementation. For these reasons, the analytical techniques of this book are to be regarded as algorithms to be implemented in different ways depending on the hardware and software available. The book was preceded by Analytical Algorithms of Celestial Mechanics by the same author, published in Russian in 1980. In spite of there being much common between these books, the present one is in fact a new monoƯ graph
Essential relativistic celestial mechanics by V. A Brumberg( Book )

20 editions published between 1991 and 2019 in 3 languages and held by 294 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Essential Relativistic Celestial Mechanics presents a systematic exposition of the essential questions of relativistic celestial mechanics and their relation to relativistic astrometry. The book focuses on the comparison of calculated and measurable quantities that is of paramount importance in using general relativity as a necessary framework in the discussion of high-precision observations and for the construction of accurate dynamical ephemerides. It discusses the results of the general relativistic theory of motion of celestial bodies and describes the relativistic theory of astronomical reference frames, time scales, and the reduction of observations."--Provided by publisher

Kinematical Relativistic Corrections for Earth's Rotation Parameters( Book )

2 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dynamical theories of the Earth's rotation like SMART97 (Bretagnon et al., 1998) are to be considered in a DGRS (dynamically non-rotating geocentric reference system) (Brumberg et al., 1996). Such a theory gives the explicit expressions in terms of TCG (Geocentric Coordinate Time) of three Euler angles relating a DGRS to the ITRS (International Terrestrial Reference System). These angular quantities together with their TCG derivatives enable one to get all of Earth's rotation parameters. At the same time, the analysis of observations results in the values for slightly different angles and their TCG derivatives characterizing the relationship between the ITRS and a KGRS (kinematically non-rotating geocentric reference system). The differences between these two sets of six quantities represent kinematical relativistic corrections due to geodesic precession, geodesic nutation, and luni-planetary terms. This paper presents these differences computed by means of the VSOP87 series (Bretagnon and Francou, 1988). In particular, in analyzing observations at the microarcsecond level, these expressions will permit an experimental check of geodesic precession in a manner that is more direct than that used today (Bertotti et al., 1987)
