Partial cutting solutions workshops by Bill I'Anson( Book )

2 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During the summer and fall of 2000, a series of partial cutting workshops were held in six forest districts--Robson Valley, Penticton, Dawson Creek, Kalum, Prince George and Bulkley/Cassiar. The intent of the workshops was to increase the awareness and use of partial cutting as a viable silvicultural option for meeting a wide range of timber and non-timber objectives. The workshops were designed to be issue-specific and solution-based. Regions were invited to survey districts for outstanding issues, challenges or problems that could be addressed by partial cutting. In addition to identifying potential partial cutting issues, district staff also selected suitable field sites where the issues or challenges were highlighted in real-life situations. This document summarizes the workshops
The retention system : maintaining forest ecosystem diversity by John Harkema( Book )

2 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The retention system is a stand-level approach to sustainable ecosystem management. Unlike typical silvicultural systems, where the focus is on the primary method of promoting regeneration, the emphasis of the retention system is on retaining structural elements of the original stand in a cutblock in order to maintain long-term ecological diversity and meet local management objectives. This document discusses the principles behind variable retention and the retention system, forest influence, the retention system versus other silvicultural systems, and applying the retention system
Developing management objectives and measures for silviculture prescriptions by Mel Scott( Book )

In December 1998, Guide to Writing Resource Objectives and Strategies was published by the Ministry of Forests, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks, and the Land Use Coordination Office. That guide was produced to assist resource planners in developing effective and appropriate management objectives for higher level plans and other resource management plans. Guide to Writing Resource Objectives and Strategies provides a number of recommendations and practical examples for preparing consistent, effective, and easily interpreted and implemented resource management objectives and strategies. Many of the ideas and concepts presented in the guide can be effectively applied to Silviculture Prescriptions (SPs) to assist planners in selecting appropriate management objectives and communicating clear management direction. Some of the more relevant recommendations are summarized in this document
