Almost since its inception the Russian art journal "Mir iskusstva" ("The World of art") has been recognized as the symbolic opening fo a new period in Russian art. The journal was published in St. Petersburg from the end of 1898 through 1904. It was the work of a small group of friends, some of them artists and some dilettantes of the arts. Among the artists who took an active part in the publication of "Mir iskusstva" were Alexandre Benois, Konstantin Somov, Evgenii Lansere, Leon Bakst, Mstislav Dobuzhinskii, and Igor Grabar. Other personalities, equally important in the founding and production of "Mir iskusstva", were Sergei Diaghilev, Dmitrii Filosofov, Alfred Nourok, and Walter Nouvel--each of whom had a special interest in some area of art, music, literature, or the theater.--Introduction

Perfectionism as a mediator between negative attitudes towards emotional expression and disordered eating, in a community sample by Janet Kennedy( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 Abstract Outcomes of previous research have been suggestive of a relationship between perfectionism and disordered eating, as well as a relationship between inhibited emotional expression and disordered eating. This internet-based study attempted to enhance our understanding of these relationships by exploring the role of perfectionism as a mediator in the relationship between negative attitudes towards emotional expression and disordered eating. As such the study was intended to examine a theory that individuals with disordered eating may believe it necessary to inhibit negative emotional expression due to their need to present as flawless. A large female community sample (N :=: 202) completed self-report measures assessing eating attitudes (EAT-26), perfectionism (APS-R) and beliefs regarding emotional expression (AEE). Both adaptive and maladaptive dimensions of perfectionism were found to have mediating role in the relationship between a variety of beliefs about emotional expression and disordered eating. Maladaptive perfectionism was found to have a particularly strong mediating role, although the strength of the associations differed dependent upon the individual attitude regarding emotional expression. The findings are discussed in relation to treatment approaches focusing upon the dichotomous thinking and self-critical styles of individuals presenting with disordered eating, as well as those treatments that attempt to restructure cognitive appraisals of emotional expression. These clinical implications are considered in the context of the recognition of a need for longitudinal prospective research to illuminate causal influences in the development of disordered eating
The uncommon vision of Sergei Konenkov, 1874-1971 : a Russian sculptor and his times by Marie Turbow Lampard( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Sergei Konenkov was one of the twentieth century's most distinguished Russian artists. A celebrated sculptor during the last decades of the Russian Empire, he rose to great prominence in the early Soviet period as well. Although he spent more than twenty years abroad in the United States, his influence never waned. After his return home in 1945, he became the dean of the Soviet art world while remaining a controversial figure to the end of his life. As mentor to several generations of Soviet sculptors, he was renowned for his personal charisma and artistic versatility. This collection of essays, interviews, and personal reminiscences is the first appraisal of his work and life published outside of Russia."--Jacket
