Jim Lambie by
Jim Lambie(
Book
)
3 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This long-awaited volume surveys the career of Glasgow-based contemporary sculptor Jim Lambie. From his distinctive floor works, striped from wall to wall with vibrant electrical tape, to his paint-soaked mattresses, Lambie adroitly sculpts humor and pathos from the clutter of modern life. Working with items immediately at hand, as well as those sourced in secondhand and hardware stores, he resurrects record decks, speakers, clothing, accessories, doors, and mirrors to form sculptural elements in larger compositions. Lambie prioritizes sensory pleasure over intellectual response. He selects materials that are familiar and have a strong personal resonance, so that they offer a way into the work as well as a springboard to a psychological space beyond. This volume not only serves as a definitive mid-career survey but also as a major reframing of the artist's work. Lambie's practice has long been understood through the lens of punk and rock music, a frequent theme of his works' titles. Here the artist and new essays instead trace his approach to the rich material histories he mines and the scrappy, resourceful spirit of his hometown, Glasgow

Live forever by
Elizabeth Peyton(
Book
)
3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 51 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"American artist Elizabeth Peyton has been credited with infusing the ancient art of portraiture with new life. Her idealized, highly stylized oil paintings, drawings and watercolours are driven by the emotional, adoring eye of an unrequited lover. Willowy, melancholy young men and women--contemporary pop stars, royalty, artists and friends--are the magnetic subjects of her devotion. Caught as in a state of ambiguous absorption and frozen at the height of their youth, they embody a new kind of portraiture that confirms and updates the immortalizing aura of the traditional genre. Peyton's melding of influences and obsessions ranges wildly: from fandom and fashion illustration to academic anatomical studies; from David Hockney and Andy Warhol to a range of Mannerist and Old Master classics; from innocence to the world of bohemia. Equally crediting photography and life drawing as its driving forces, her enamoured yet refreshingly economic light wash technique underscores her uniquely delicate, informed hybrid of high and low culture, a statement executed with infectious, seemingly effortless fluidity." -- Provided by publisher

Jim Lambie - Not Just for Me by
John Giorno(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Known for his visually compelling, generous and beguiling work which attracts both popular and critical acclaim, Jim Lambie came to prominence with 'Zobop' (1999), a floor-based sculptural intervention that consists of continuous lines of multi-coloured vinyl tape laid in concentric circuits of a room from its outside edges to its centre. First shown in Transmission in Glasgow in 1999, it is now in several major international collections. This publication celebrates one of Jim Lambie's most generous sculptures: a poetry club he established in Glasgow in 2012. With music and poetry from a range of performers including Patti Smith, Richard Hell, Liz Lochhead and John Giorno, the poetry club has over the last two years hosted a rich assemblage of some of the people who, in Lambie's words, "give us our dreams". - Fruitmarket Gallery
