Die Komödie, die Molière für seinen "Geizhals" Pate stand: Der alte Geizkragen Euclio hat einen in einem Topf versteckten Goldschatz gefunden, was seine Raffgier noch verstärkt und ihm keine Ruhe mehr gönnt. Jeden Augenblick sieht er sich von Räubern bedroht, aus jeder zufälligen Bemerkung seiner Gesprächspartner glaubt er herauszuhören, dass sein kostbarer Fund entdeckt wurde. Doch schliesslich erfährt der Diener des Lykonides unbeabsichtigterweise doch vom Versteck, nimmt den Topf an sich und informiert seinen Herrn. Dieser Lykonides hatte ein folgenschweres Schäferstündchen mit Euclios Tochter, auf die der nicht mehr junge, dafür aber reiche Nachbar Megadorus ein Auge geworfen hat und dessen Hochzeitsvorbereitungen bereits im Gange sind. Dank des Goldtopfes als Pfand kommen schliesslich doch die beiden Richtigen zusammen. (Quelle: Spielberater)
