Selected prose of Christina Rossetti by Christina Georgina Rossetti( Book )

10 editions published in 1998 in English and Undetermined and held by 621 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Christina Rossetti is one of the best known and loved of Victorian poets, yet only recently has she emerged from comparative critical obscurity. This is partly due to a late 20th-century rediscovery of women writers and partly because of a renewed interest in Victorian culture. Although Rossetti's poetry is readily available, her prose works have remained largely ignored. Selected Prose of Christina Rossetti is the first book to address this deficiency by making accessible reliable texts illustrative of all her prose. The editors have collected selections of Rossetti's prose in its three modes: fiction, non-fiction, and devotional. Rossetti wrote prose all her life, beginning with fiction, and continued with moral tales, stories for children, and thoughtful articles on such literary figures as Petrarch, Dante, and Leopardi. But above all else, she wrote devotional books. She wrote six religious works, first the brief Annus Domini and lastly the massive work on the Apocalypse, The Face of the Deep, published shortly before her death. This groundbreaking anthology helps to reveal Rossetti's deep personal faith while also illuminating nineteenth-century religious thought and spirituality. - Publisher

6 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 386 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Heirs of Fame: Milton and Writers of the English Renaissance brings together a dozen essays by recognized scholars of the English Renaissance. Regency radical : selected writings of William Hone by William Hone( Book )

4 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 210 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this, the first comprehensive selection of Hone's writings, David A. Kent and D. R. Ewen seek to expand our understanding of this writer, political radical, publisher, and bookseller as a major figure in the reform movement of the Regency period. Illustrated with over sixty woodcuts by Hone's frequent collaborator, George Cruikshank, this book reveals the writer's commitment to such issues as parliamentary reform, religious liberty, reform of asylums, and freedom of the press, while conveying the many dimensions of his humane personality." "Regency Radical includes selections from Hone's early radical writings, miscellaneous prose volumes, and letters displaying his amiable wit and engaging intimacy. The trials of 1817 are reprinted for the first time in over a century, and the drama of Hone's legal battle with Lord Ellenborough, Chief Justice of England, remains gripping. Reprints of four of Hone's most successful satires, including The Political House that Jack Built, appear along with Cruikshank's woodcuts to re-create the look of the original publications. The volume features an introduction, a chronology of Hone's life, more than seventy illustrations, and a selected bibliography."--BOOK JACKET
