"In this training video, Frank Pittman demonstrates Empowerment Therapy with a married couple who disagrees about how to parent their ten-year-old daughter. As Pittman offers practical solutions to the various problems the couple presents, he uncovers the layers of resistance to change and helps Dad recognize the power he has to make positive changes so that he can be the father and partner he longs to be. Concluding with a discussion with an audience of therapists, Pittman shares what he has learned over his forty years working with couples and families. You will learn how to develop a therapeutic relationship with clients that empowers them to make the changes they want in their lives; how to negotiate a family's resistance to change; and how to help parents make responsible decisions that are in their family's long-term best interest. 1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"While most therapists recognize that our theoretical orientation shapes our work, many of us forget a larger truth - that the kind of therapy we do is also the product of where we are in our own life cycle. Not only do we do things differently as a result of getting married, having children and grandchildren, and going through the aging process, but our clients react to us differently as the years pass. This workshop will offer you deeper awareness of how to harvest the wisdom of your own journey through the life cycle. We'll explore a variety of issues, including how we present ourselves differently to clients as we mature and age and what effect that has, how our increasing store of personal life experience impacts our work, and how best to pass along the lessons we learn from our clients to others we see. We'll pay special attention to the role of storytelling in the therapeutic process, using film clips for examples." Psychotherapy Networker website
