In 1922, a famous libel trial pitted a Mrs. Hahn, who had tried to sell a Da Vinci painting, against the international art dealer, Sir (later Baron) Joseph Duveen, who had pronounced it a copy of a painting hanging in the Louvre, thereby rendering it nearly worthless. The controversy continues today as Leon Louks, the present owner, works to establish his version of "La belle ferronnière" as the original and the one in the Louvre as the copy
