Depuis 1980, l'IREQ a concentre ses efforts sur le developpement d'un accumulateur a polymeres, connu sous l'acronyme ACEP. Ces accumulateurs se caracterisent par l'usage de films souples, a geometrie variee et dont l'epaisseur est inferieure a 0,1 mm. Ils peuvent etre rechargeables (duree de vie de 1000 cycles profonds). Ils peuvent fonctionner de -10 degres C a 100 degres C et sont produits a partir de procedes economiques et rapides derives de ceux employes pour les rubans magnetiques, la photographie et les condensateurs plastiques. Le rapport presente l'adaptation de l'accumulateur ACEP a des applications de traction sous l'angle en particulier des materiaux, des configurations, de l'assemblage des piles, des techniques electrochimiques d'evaluation (cyclage, puissance, impedance, cyclage en serie, gestion thermique), de la conception de modules de 40 kWh et des procedes d'elaboration et d'assemblage. L'accumulateur de traction developpe trouverait ses premieres applications dans les fauteuils roulants electriques. Par ailleurs, les resultats obtenus sont tres prometteurs pour un assemblage de 40 kWh utilisable dans des voitures electriques au chapitre notamment de l'autonomie et du poids

A study has been made of the effect of various parameters on theelectric strength of air gaps to provide a technical basis forthe derivation of clearances to be used on the Canadian 50 kVrailway system. Tests were made using a rod-plane gap for arange of voltages up to 350 kV including switching and lightningimpulses as well as 60 Hz and combined impulse and 60 Hz waves. The effects of different atmospheric conditions - clean andsalt-water fog and contamination by both conducting andinsulating particles as well as exhaust fumes - wereinvestigated. The influence of water droplets falling from oneelectrode was also determined. Of these, the most importantfactor in reducing the strength of the air gap was diesel exhaustfumes, which brought down the 60 Hz strength of the gap by asmuch as 20%
