Arctic fish habitat use investigations : nearshore studies in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea, summer 1990 by
Lyman K Thorsteinson(
Book
)
5 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Report of research conducted during 1990 by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to evaluate temporal and spatial patterns of fish habitat utilization in the coastal Beaufort Sea. Two approaches were used, systematic fish sampling across large areas and study of movement behavior of individuals equipped with ultrasonic tags; Arctic cod, capelin, and Arctic cisco were the numeric dominants

Aspects of sound speed structure and related water properties in the Gulf of Mexico, June-December 1969 by
Laurie E Jarvela(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Oceanographic data collected in the Gulf of Mexico during June-December 1969 indicate that the dominant modifier of sound speed structure and related parameters is the East Gulf Loop Current and associated waters. Westerly migration of a detached East Gulf Loop eddy radically altered local sound speed structure in a period as short as one month, while sound speed structure in the eddy remained essentially unchanged during the survey period. Existence of a relic eddy in the western gulf was suggested by temperature-salinity-oxygen relationships. Frequency distributions of sound speed within the thermocline are examined and the existence of two primary sound speed regimes is established. Examples of the effects of the detached eddy on sound ray paths in the thermocline are shown. Use of thermal structure measuring devices to monitor regime movements and to locate their boundaries is discussed

OCEANOGRAPHIC CRUISE SUMMARY UNITAS VIII CRUISE AROUND SOUTH AMERICA AUGUST TO DECEMBER 1967(
)
1 edition published in 1968 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Oceanographic operations were conducted aboard U.S. Navy ships during the UNITAS VIII cruise around South America during the period 18 August to 9 December 1967. Nansen cast, bathythermograph, and bathymetric observations were made around the periphery of the continent. Thermal structure information was utilized for sonar range predictions during the cruise. In the vicinity of the Gulf of Panama, mixed layers were generally shallow, and surface temperatures were below average. Mixed layers were deepest in the offshore waters in the Peru Current region. Upwelling occurred off Punta Parinas and appeared to occur at 16 degrees and 30 degrees S. The water structure in the interisland region of Chile's southern coast indicated estuarine conditons. Conversely, the water column in the Strait of Magellan appeared to be well mixed. Land-derived surface waters were observed off Argentina. In the region of confluence of the Brazil and Falkland Currents, water structure was quite variable. Farther north, the Brazil Current waters were characterized by high temperatures and salinities in the surface layers. In the Guiana and Caribbean Currents, water structures were relatively uniform in character; the mixed layer appeared to be restricted in vertical extent by Subtropic Underwater
