Complex variables : an introduction by
Carlos A Berenstein(
Book
)
24 editions published between 1991 and 2012 in English and Undetermined and held by 588 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This text gives an overview of the basic properties of holomorphic functions of one complex variable. Topics studied in this overview include a detailed description of differential forms, homotopy theory, and homology theory, as the analytic properties of holomorphic functions, the solvability of the inhomogeneous CauchyRiemann equation with emphasis on the notation of compact families, the theory of growth of subharmonic functions, and an introduction to the theory of sheaves, covering spaces and Riemann surfaces. To further illuminate the material, a large number of exercises of differing levels of difficulty have been added

Complex analysis : proceedings of the special year held at the University of Maryland, College Park, 198586 by
Carlos A Berenstein(
Book
)
42 editions published between 1987 and 2006 in 3 languages and held by 548 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The past several years have witnessed a striking number of important developments in Complex Analysis. One of the characteristics of these developments has been to bridge the gap existing between the theory of functions of one and of several complex variables. The Special Year in Complex Analysis at the University of Maryland, and these proceedings, were conceived as a forum where these new developments could be presented and where specialists in different areas of complex analysis could exchange ideas. These proceedings contain both surveys of different subjects covered during the year as well as many new results and insights. The manuscripts are accessible not only to specialists but to a broader audience. Among the subjects touched upon are Nevanlinna theory in one and several variables, interpolation problems in Cn, estimations and integral representations of the solutions of the CauchyRiemann equations, the complex MongeAmpre equation, geometric problems in complex analysis in Cn, applications of complex analysis to harmonic analysis, partial differential equations

Harmonic analysis, signal processing, and complexity : festschrift in honor of the 60th birthday of Carlos A. Berenstein by
Hyman Bass(
)
10 editions published between 2005 and 2006 in English and held by 533 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Carlos A. Berenstein has had a profound influence on scholars and practitioners alike amid a distinguished mathematical career spanning nearly four decades. His uncommon capability of adroitly moving between these parallel worlds is demonstrated by the breadth of his research interests, from his early theoretical work on interpolation in spaces of entire functions with growth conditions and residue theory to his later work on deconvolution and its applications to issues ranging from optics to the study of blood flow. This volume, which celebrates his sixtieth birthday, reflects the stateoftheart in these areas. Original articles and survey articles, all refereed, cover topics inharmonic and complex analysis, as well as more applied work in signal processing. TOC:Preface * John Baras * Carlos A. Berenstein* Leon Ehrenpreis * Gerald Kaiser * Christer Kiselman * Steven G. Krantz * Krishnaprasad * Bao Qin Li * Irene Sabadini * Bernard Shiffman * Daniele C. Struppa * Alan Taylor * David F. Walnut

Residue currents and Bezout identities by
Carlos A Berenstein(
)
11 editions published between 1992 and 1993 in English and German and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The objective of this monograph is to present a coherent picture of the almost mysterious role that analytic methods and, in particular, multidimensional residue have recently played in obtaining effective estimates for problems in commutative algebra. Bezout identities, i. e., f1g1 + ... + fmgm = 1, appear naturally in many problems, for example in commutative algebra in the Nullstellensatz, and in signal processing in the deconvolution problem. One way to solve them is by using explicit interpolation formulas in Cn, and these depend on the theory of multidimensional residues. The authors present this theory in detail, in a form developed by them, and illustrate its applications to the effective Nullstellensatz and to the Fundamental Principle for convolution equations

Homogenization of partial differential equations by
V. A Marchenko(
)
5 editions published in 2006 in English and Undetermined and held by 87 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Homogenization is a method for modeling processes in microinhomogeneous media, which are encountered in radiophysics, filtration theory, rheology, elasticity theory, and other domains of mechanics, physics, and technology. These processes are described by PDEs with rapidly oscillating coefficients or boundary value problems in domains with complex microstructure. From the technical point of view, given the complexity of these processes, the best techniques to solve a wide variety of problems involve constructing appropriate macroscopic (homogenized) models. The present monograph is a comprehensive study of homogenized problems, based on the asymptotic analysis of boundary value problems as the characteristic scales of the microstructure decrease to zero. The work focuses on the construction of nonstandard models: nonlocal models, multicomponent models, and models with memory. Along with complete proofs of all main results, numerous examples of typical structures of microinhomogeneous media with their corresponding homogenized models are provided. Graduate students, applied mathematicians, physicists, and engineers will benefit from this monograph, which may be used in the classroom or as a comprehensive reference text

Laguerre calculus and its applications on the Heisenberg group by
Carlos A Berenstein(
)
11 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
For nearly two centuries, the relation between analytic functions of one complex variable, their boundary values, harmonic functions, and the theory of Fourier series has been one of the central topics of study in mathematics. The topic stands on its own, yet also provides very useful mathematical applications. This text provides a selfcontained introduction to the corresponding questions in several complex variables: namely, analysis on the Heisenberg group and the study of the solutions of the boundary CauchyRiemann equations. In studying this material, readers are exposed to analysis in n
