George Condo : one hundred women by George Condo( Book )

12 editions published in 2005 in German and English and held by 216 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"American painter George Condo, who was born in New Hampshire in 1957, has occupied a prominent position in the Western art scene from Cologne to New York for more than twenty years. He regularly succeeds in surprising viewers with his grotesque, often tradition-conscious, and almost classically Surrealistic paintings. Condo's own models and partners in dialogue range from Goya and Velazqaez to Picasso and Warhol, in whose Factory he earned this living for a brief period in the early eighties. Along with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Julian Schnabel, he was instrumental in the international revival of painting after 1982. This retrospective publication focuses on Condo's favorite subject: women. Featuring some fifty paintings, forty drawings, and five sculptures, the book presents a motif that appears in various forms in his art - in nudes, portraits, and art-historical collages. Apart from Picasso and Mattise, no other twentieth-century artist has dealt with this theme as intensely and imaginatively as George Condo."--Jacket

33 poems by Robert Lax( Book )

5 editions published between 1987 and 2019 in English and held by 184 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The American poet Robert Lax belongs to the generation of Thomas Merton, Beat poetry, Abstract Expressionism, and the compositions of John Cage. Yet he stands out as this era's most intriguing minimalist poet, gaining this reputation through a constant questioning of the universe and our idea about it. His poetry varies from fables and parables to clear-cut columns of words, from his account of a day at the circus as a vision of creation to his own insistent and mystical search for truth. 33 Poems presents the quintessential gathering of Lax's work, including Sea & Sky and The Circus of the Sun, 'perhaps the greatest English-language poem of this century' (The New York Times)"--
