Georgia O'Keeffe : a life by Georgia O'Keeffe ( Book )
20 editions published between 1984 and 2001 in English and held by 1,875 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) was a major figure in American art for seven decades. Throughout that long and prolific career she remained true to her unique artistic vision, creating a highly individual style that synthesized the formal language of modern European abstraction and the themes of traditional American pictorialism. The main subjects to which she returned again and again were the flowers, animal bones and landscapes around her studios in Lake George, New York, and finally New Mexico, with which she has become ultimately identified." "This comprehensive and illuminating new book by a noted scholar on O'Keeffe and her work, surveys the complete oeuvre - drawings, watercolours and paintings from all periods - and explains her life in the context of her artistic output. The text, which incorporates current scholarship and benefits from the recent publication of the artist's catalogue raisonne, is accompanied by a full complement of colour plates and comparative black-and-white photographs."--BOOK JACKET
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum by Lisa Mintz Messinger ( Book )
7 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 1,298 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986), a pioneer of modernism, was unlike most of her contemporaries in that all her training and much of her subject matter were purely American. Still vigorously productive in her nineties, O'Keeffe always responded to the new in her own unique fashion. In this volume, eighty-six works from every period of her life, many never before published, are reproduced in large scale and in full color. Several are shown in lavish gatefolds." "More than a dozen photographs of the artist, including a number taken by Alfred Stieglitz, document the various stages of her life. A bibliography and full index add to the scholarly value of this handsome volume."--BOOK JACKET

Abstract expressionism : works on paper : selections from the Metropolitan Museum of Art by N.Y.) Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York ( Book )
5 editions published between 1992 and 1993 in English and held by 575 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract Expressionist works on paper from the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art are presented in this volume, which documents the wealth of the Museum's holdings in that area. Many of them are published here for the first time, and several are recent additions to the collection. All are illustrated in full-page color reproductions that show the nuances of each work in great detail. The Abstract Expressionists are best known for their paintings and sculptures, and virtually all of the many publications about these artists concentrate on those large-scale works. This unique catalogue deals exclusively with their smaller, more intimate works on paper, providing many new insights about the routes that led to the Abstract Expressionists' innovative artistic accomplishments. The nineteen artists included are William Baziotes, James Brooks, Elaine de Kooning, Willem de Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Adolph Gottlieb, Philip Guston, Gerome Kamrowski, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Richard Pousette-Dart, Theodore Roszak, Mark Rothko, Anne Ryan, David Smith, Theodoros Stamos, and Mark Tobey. Each of them is discussed in a separate essay, which encompasses information about the artist's background and development, commentary about the importance of drawing in his or her oeuvre, and an analysis of each work in the selection. Also included in the essays is technical information about a number of the individual works that enhances understanding of the variety and originality of these artists' media and techniques
