Superstring theory by
M Green(
)
148 editions published between 1986 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 2,751 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In recent years, superstring theory has emerged as a promising approach to reconciling general relativity with quantum mechanics and unifying the fundamental interactions. Problems that have seemed insuperable in previous approaches take on a totally new character in the context of superstring theory, and some of them have been overcome. Interest in the subject has greatly increased following a succession of exciting recent developments. This twovolume book attempts to meet the need for a systematic exposition of superstring theory and its applications accessible to as wide an audience as possible. Amazon

Twentyfive years ago, Michael Green, John Schwarz, and Edward Witten wrote two volumes on string theory. Published during a period of rapid progress in this subject, these volumes were highly influential for a generation of students and researchers. Despite the immense progress that has been made in the field since then, the systematic exposition of the foundations of superstring theory presented in these volumes is just as relevant today as when first published. A selfcontained introduction to superstrings, Volume 1 begins with an elementary treatment of the bosonic string, before describing the incorporation of additional degrees of freedom: fermionic degrees of freedom leading to supersymmetry and internal quantum numbers leading to gauge interactions. A detailed discussion of the evaluation of treeapproximation scattering amplitudes is also given. Featuring a new Preface setting the work in context in light of recent advances, this book is invaluable for graduate students and researchers in general relativity and elementary particle theory

String theory : towards a theory of nothing by
M Green(

)
4 editions published between 1993 and 2008 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Michael Green discusses how string theory may provide the framework for a consistent quantum theory of gravity unified with the other physical forces. He reviews the underlying principles of the theory illustrating interconnections with other areas of theoretical physics, such a as statistical mechanics on random surfaces. Recent developments, such as the string description of black holes and the search for a quantum description of spacetime based on string theory are also described
