A minimum description length polygonal approximation method by S Banerjee( Book )

2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "Given a sequence of points in two dimensions, obtained by sampling the perimeter of a planar region, it is often of interest to approximate this set by piecewise linear curves or polygons. In this paper we take a Minimum Description Length (MDL) approach to this problem. The algorithm presented yields the polygonal approximation with the (globally) minimum description length to the given sequence of points for fixed initial and final endpoints. The execution time and space requirements of our algorithm are both O(n²), where n is the number of points. Experimental results demonstrating the behavior of the optimal algorithm under changes in noise and precision levels are shown."

Retrieving images from a database using texture-algorithms from the QBIC system by William H. R Equitz( Book )

2 editions published in 1994 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "In the QBIC (Query By Image Content) project at the IBM Almaden Research Center we are studying methods to query large on-line image databases using the images' content as the basis of the queries. This is as opposed to just using associated text labels or captions. Examples of the content we use include the color, texture, and shape of image objects and regions. In our queries, we are interested in retrieving images similar to our query specification, rather than restricting ourselves only to exact matches. In this paper we describe the algorithms that we use for matching and comparing two digital images based on their texture properties."
