Jiří Kylián's black & white ballets by Jiri Kylian( Visual )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 117 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The ballets represented in the Black and White series are arresting examples of Jiří Kylián's style and fully justify his reputation as one of the most inventive and daring choreographers on today's dance scene. The vitality of his work is underpinned by a musicality so innate that his dancers and the music they move to seem to spring from the same impulse

Hamlet by William Shakespeare( Visual )

4 editions published between 2009 and 2013 in English and held by 44 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In 2008, the UK's eminent Royal Shakespeare Company brought Hamlet - Shakespeare's most famous and perhaps most influential play - back to the stage, spoken in verse but with contemporary dress and David Tennant in the eponymous role. No recent stage production in Britain has attracted either the level of interest of the near-unanimously positive reviews. Tennant's interpretation was recognised as defining the role for a generation and Patrick Stewart - playing Claudius - as a performance of great depth and complexity. In this specially-shot screen version of the stage play (filmed on location rather than in the theatre), Tennant and Stewart reprise their roles. Dynamic, exciting and contemporary, it brings Shakespeare's greatest play to a far wider audience than ever before."--Container

Bloody cartoons : freedom of expression and the clash of cultures by Karsten Kjaer( Visual )

2 editions published between 2008 and 2009 in English and held by 42 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 2005, a handful of Danish cartoons sparked a worldwide debate over freedom of expression-and the freedom to express religious outrage. Was a violent Islamic backlash against caricatures of the prophet Mohammed justified? Can democracy and fundamentalism coexist in the global community? This program travels to Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Qatar, and Turkey, as well as to France and Denmark, in search of answers. Viewers will encounter a wide array of perspectives from influential figures-such as Raed Hlayhel, the Danish Imam who moved to Lebanon to spearhead protests; Sheikh Yusef al-Qaradawi, the al-Jazeera Islamic televangelist who called for a "day of anger" against the cartoons; and leading staff members of newspapers that published them
The Pharaoh's daughter = La fille du Pharaon by Pierre Lacotte( Visual )

1 edition published in 2003 and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Pierre Lacotte's production for The Pharaoh's Daughter, initially choreographed by Marius Petipa, is here magnificently performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. Choreographed by Marius Petipa after Théophile Gautier's Le Roman de la momie, The Pharaoh's Daughter encountered great success when it was first premiered in 1862, before it sank into oblivion during the 20th century, because it did not fit the criteria of the socialist realism that was in force during the Soviet Union. In 2000, Pierre Lacotte was invited to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to create a new rendition of the ballet, with new settings and new costumes. This program filmed in 2003 stars the couple of Svetlana Zakharova and Sergei Filin. The dreams of opium, the Egyptian-inspired costumes, make-up and settings as well as the story itself drive the audience into an exotic world, just like in the Bayadère, which was premiered a few years later. This new choreography brings together extremely difficult variations for the soloists and great scenes with almost the totality of the Bolshoi Ballet's dancers. Cesare Pugni's music, finally, is performed with grace by the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Sotnikov, who adapted the original score
