Education Consolidation Improvement Act (ecia) Chapter 2 funds have been used in the Dade County, Florida, computer education program since 1982, primarily for the acquisition and support of computer stations and related hardware for the schools. Objectives for the 1984-85 school year were: continued development of a computer information system, support services for school level implementation, and participation in state and national computer education activities. The following goals were described in the program design as means to achieving these objectives: (1) employ a media specialist; (2) produce eight newsletters; (3) develop mechanics to activate an electronic bulletin board; (4) purchase software, journals, books, and equipment for the computer laboratory; (5) duplicate software and disseminate it to the schools; (6) employ a computer education specialist; (7) organize a computer education conference; (8) provide workshops on computer education; (9) attend the Florida Instructional Computing Conference; and (10) maintain membership in various national consortia. This evaluation concludes that these activities were performed as specified in the proposal, and it is recommended that the ecia Chapter 2 Computer Education Project be favorably considered for continuation. Evaluation of the 1983-84 Ecia, Chapter Ii Articulation for Career Education Project by Donald R Morris( Book )

1 edition published in 1984 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Articulation for Career Education (ace) is a project designed by the Department of Career Education to continue and expand the Articulated School-Based Management Plan (asbmp) begun in 1981. a total sum of $57,966 in Education Consolidation Improvement Act (ecia) Chapter ii funds were granted for the first year of this proposed 24 month project of the Dade County Florida Public Schools. An evaluation of the ace project was undertaken to verify that the schools currently included in asbmp were monitored, and to observe and document the process of induction of new schools into the program. Personnel from the Department of Career Education were interviewed and their records examined. It was recommended that the Department of Career Education (dce) indicate a minimum acceptable level of supervision, or monitoring, for the regular asbmp program, in terms of a measureable criterion. Should the dce determine that the designated minimum level of supervision of the regular program cannot be maintained with the present level of resources, while the remaining schools are being inducted into asbmp, it was recommended that any requests for additional funding to increase temporary monitoring capabilities be favorably regarded. Evaluation of the Dade County Public Schools Roving Leaders Outreach Program by Donald R Morris( Book )

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Roving Leaders Center, one of the Dade County (Florida) Public Schools' Educational Alternative Outreach Programs, is designed as a last resort beyond the opportunity schools. Although it originally involved counselors who visited the schools, it now consists of a classroom, recreation room, offices, and reception area. It is staffed by a coordinator, an instructor and instructor's aide, a secretary, and a job developer. The program has embraced 69 adolescent students who have stayed with the program between 6 and 437 days (with an average of 132). The 22 students currently in attendance in June, 1985, completed a questionnaire evaluating the program and surveying students' future plans. The questionnaire, tabulated results, and student responses about their future goals are appended. All students reported that they expected to graduate from high school. An additional 15 students who had left the program to reenter the school system were followed by means of telephone interviews with their counselors. The Roving Leaders program was judged to compare favorably with other similar programs regarding attendance; improvement in behavior and performance seemed to be related to how recently the student had left an outreach program. It was recommended that the program be retained but not necessarily duplicated. (Mgd)
Evaluation of the 1985-86 Ecia, Chapter Ii Teaching Geographic Skills Project by Donald R Morris( Book )

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This Education Consolidation and Improvement Act (ecia), Chapter ii project combined acquisition of instructional equipment with teacher training to improve the geographic skills of students in grades six through eight in the Dade County Public Schools, Florida. Map and globe materials from three different publishers (the George F. Cram Company, the Nystrom Company, and Rand McNally) were purchased and applied for this purpose. One teacher from each of the district's 47 middle and junior high schools was trained in the use of specific materials through the district's teacher education center, assisted by publishers' representatives. One class in each participating school was taught a four-week unit in geographic skills. Evaluation was by the National Council for Geographic Education Competency-Based Geography Test, Intermediate Level. Acceptable data were obtained from 35 schools. Pretest to posttest gains were significant at all schools. Analysis of the effect of publishers' materials indicated that the materials published by the George F. Cram Company were more effective in grades six and seven than the other publishers' materials. (Author/MDE)
