Global analysis on foliated spaces by C. C Moore( )

22 editions published between 1988 and 2006 in English and held by 1,079 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book presents a complete proof of this beautiful result, generalized to foliated spaces (not just manifolds). It includes the necessary background from analysis, geometry, and topology. This second edition has improved exposition, an updated bibliography, an index, and additional material covering developments and applications since the first edition came out, including the confirmation of the Gap Labeling Conjecture of Jean Bellissard."--Jacket

Unitary representations of solvable Lie groups by Louis Auslander( Book )

19 editions published between 1966 and 1990 in English and Italian and held by 264 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this monograph, we are going to treat some aspects of the unitary representation theory of solvable Lie groups. One of the fundamental questions one can raise about any locally compact group or C* algebra is that of determining when it is type I and to try to determine the structure of the set of equivalence classes of its irreducible representations. It is this and closely related questions which will occupy us here. In the course of this investigation, we will have to make use of a rather elaborate theory of infinite dimensional unitary representations of groups and algebras, and have thus included a rather lengthly expository introduction

Mathematics at Berkeley : a history by C. C Moore( Book )

12 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 198 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this fascinating history of the mathematics department at the University of California, Berkeley, Moore describes how this institution evolved from a single facutly member at a financially-troubled private college into a major research center that is ranked among the very best in the USA and in the world. Moore's account spans from its origins in the 1850s to the establishment and early years of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) in the early to mid 1980s
Group Representations, Ergodic Theory, Operator Algebras, and Mathematical Physics : Proceedings of a Conference in Honor of George W. Mackey by C. C Moore( )

1 edition published in 1987 in English and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute sponsored a three day conference, May 21-23, 1984 to honor Professor George W. Mackey. The title of the conference, Group Representations, Ergodic Theory, Operator Algebras, and Mathematical Physics, reflects the interests in science that have characterized Professor wide ranging Mackey's work. The conference provided an opportunity for his students, friends and colleagues to honor him and his contributions. The conference was attended by over one hundred people and the participants included five mathematical generations Professor Mackey's mathematical father, Marshall Stone, many mathematical children, grandchildren, and at least one mathematical great-grandchild. This volume is a compendium of the scientific papers presented at the conference plus some additional papers contributed after the conference. The far ranging scope of the various articles is a further indication of the large number of fields that have been affected by Professor Mackey's work. Calvin C. Global analysis on foliated spaces by C. C Moore( )

5 editions published between 1988 and 2006 in English and Undetermined and held by 50 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Presents a complete proof of Connes' Index Theorem generalized to foliated spaces, alongside the necessary background from analysis, geometry, and topology. It thus provides a natural introduction to the basic ideas of noncommutative topology. This edition has improved exposition, an updated bibliography, an index, and covers new developments and applications

Global analysis on foliated spaces( Book )

2 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Foliated spaces look locally like products, but their global structure is generally not a product, and tangential differential operators are correspondingly more complex. In the 1980s, Alain Connes founded what is now known as noncommutative geometry and topology. One of the first results was his generalization of the Atiyah-Singer index theorem to compute the analytic index associated with a tangential (pseudo) - differential operator and an invariant transverse measure on a foliated manifold, in terms of topological data on the manifold and the operator. This second edition presents a complete proof of this beautiful result, generalized to foliated spaces (not just manifolds). It includes the necessary background from analysis, geometry, and topology. The present edition has improved exposition, an updated bibliography, an index, and additional material covering developments and applications since the first edition came out, including the confirmation of the Gap Labeling Conjecture of Jean Bellissard
