Bruce Nauman : disappearing acts by Bruce Nauman( Book )

9 editions published in 2018 in English and German and held by 379 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Bruce Nauman is widely acknowledged as a central figure in contemporary art, and the stringent questioning of values --both aesthetic and moral-- that has long sustained his project remains urgent today. For more than fifty years, Nauman has explored how mutable experiences of time, space, sound, movement, and language provide an insecure foundation for our understanding of our place in the world. This richly illustrated catalogue, which includes rare and previously unpublished images, offers a comprehensive view of the artist's work in all media --including drawings; early fiberglass sculptures; sound environments; architecturally scaled, participatory constructions; rhythmically blinking neons; and a recent 3-D video that harks back to one of Nauman's earliest performances. A wide range of authors --artists, curators, and historians of art, architecture, and film-- focus on topics that have been largely neglected, such as the architectural structures that posit real or imaginary spaces as models for ethical inquiry and mechanisms of control. Curator Kathy Halbreich's introductory essay explores Nauman's many acts of disappearance, withdrawal, and deflection as revelatory of his central formal and intellectual concerns. Eighteen further contributions tease out the various themes that run through this protean and elusive artist's work

Brätsch by Kerstin Brätsch( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in German and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Kerstin Brätsch--Innovation" is the first comprehensive exhibition of the Hamburg-born and New York-based painter. In Brätsch's work, the influences of the digital age are coupled, in a unique manner, with a reflection on art-historical traditions. Her complex and consistent work oscillates between a conceptual analysis of painting and a devotion of painterly processes. With around 60 large-scale paintings on paper and Mylar film, and in the marbling technique, more than 40 handmade glass works, numerous videos, two slide projections, a large installation, as well as several in situ interventions, the exhibition provides a first comprehensive overview of the artist's painterly practice since 2006

Bruce Nauman by Joan Simon( Book )

3 editions published between 1993 and 1994 in English and Undetermined and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since the late 1960s Bruce Nauman has established a completely new understanding of contemporary art and has been acknowledged as one of the most relevant artists of the twentieth century. Both the last modern artist and - because of his ceaseless experimental approach to new media - the very first contemporary artist, Nauman has been noted for his landmark conceptual approach against which much contemporary art of today can be measured. Focusing in particular on his experiments with sound, the moving image and immersive installations, this book comprises texts on Nauman's video works of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as on his studio practice and more recent work, along with a conversation between the artist and Andrea Lissoni and Nicholas Serota
