The making of a peacemonger : the memoirs of George Ignatieff by George Ignatieff( Book )

9 editions published between 1985 and 1987 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Standing on a roof following one of the worst wartime air raids on London, two men resolved to devote their lives to peace. One of them was Mike Pearson, eventually prime minister of Canada. The other was a junior foreign service official named George Ignatieff. Igantieff was the son of an aristocratic Russian family forced to flee during the civil war. He went on to become a railroad construction worker, a Rhodes scholar, Canadian ambassador to Yugoslavia and the North Atlantic Council, and representative at the U.N. Security Council and the Geneva Disarmament Conference: George Ignatieff has led a truly extraordinary life. In this volume of memoirs, with insight, warmth and unfailing humour, he looks back and remembers everything from his dramatic escape from Russia, to the end of a diplomatic career that spanned three vital decades in world history
