Edward Burra by Simon Martin ( Book )
3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 140 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Edward Burra (1905-76) was an English painter who is best known for his paintings of the seedy underworld of urban life. Yet, as this fascinating new monograph on his work reveals, his interests were much broader, incorporating landscape and still-life paintings, stage designs and book illustration. Somewhat neglected by histories of modern art because his singular vision was often at odds with the mainstream art world, his work is now due for a re-appraisal. Published to accompany a major exhibition of Burra's paintings and drawings at Pallant House Gallery, this important book represents the first full-scale monograph on Edward Burra and reproduces 100 key paintings alongside drawings and a range of fascinating contextual material. It positions Burra as a major figure in the history of 20th-century art, placing his work alongside that of the German Expressionists and other important contemporaries and influences, such as Surrealism and the macabre. Long awaited, this book will be widely welcomed by all those with an interest in the art of this fascinating maverick and documenter of modern life."--Publisher's website

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 122 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
R. B. Kitaj (1932-2007) was one of the most significant painters of the post-war period. His work defied the trend in abstract art prevalent in the 1960s and brought him to the forefront of British figurative painting. In spring 2013 the Jewish Museum London and Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, will concurrently present the only UK showing of the major retrospective R.B. Kitaj: Obsessions, currently displayed at the Jewish Museum Berlin. The joint London/ Chichester shows are the first comprehensive exhibition of the oeuvre of Kitaj since his death and the first major retrospective in the UK since his 1994-5 exhibition at the Tate Gallery. The exhibition at the Jewish Museum London will feature over thirty works in which Kitaj explored his Jewish identity, including iconic paintings such as The Wedding; If Not, Not; Cecil Court, London W2 (The Refugees) and The Jewish Rider.--http://jewishmuseum.org.uk/Kitaj
