Im Todeszellentrakt begegnen sie sich zum ersten Mal: Der Doppelmörder und Rassist Sam Cayhall und der junge, aufstrebende Anwalt Adam Hall, Sams Enkel. Er ist von der Unschuld seines Großvaters überzeugt, wittert ein Komplott und will ihn vor der Gaskammer retten.
