Charmian, a slave who has saved Antony's life by warning him about Cleopatra's scheming courtiers, is put to death by a jealous Cleopatra. The Roman Senate declares Antony a traitor, and when he is defeated in battle by Octavius, he commits suicide. Cleopatra tries unsuccessfully to entice Octavius, and kills herself.
