Jay Leno's headlines by Jay Leno( Book )

Headlines : real but ridiculous samplings from America's newspapers( Book )

2 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The reason these headlines appealed to me is because they were never intended to be funny in the first place. That they're checked and rechecked by a proofreader makes them funnier still. In this book we've deliberately avoided using headlines from tabloid or so-called "pulp" newspapers because the double entendres found in them are often intentional. It's when they're not but show up anyway in the local gazette, that you have to laugh. In the same way that a joke is funnier in church, a silly headline seems even sillier when it appears in a respected "organ of the people." I'd like to thank the viewers of The Tonight Show who contributed the headlines that appear here and have made it possible for me to donate all author proceeds to charity. - Introduction
Preston Tucker and his battle to build the car of tomorrow by Steve Lehto( )

3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 171 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the wake of World War II, the U.S. automobile industry was fully unprepared to meet the growing demands of the public, for whom they had not made any cars for years. In stepped Preston Tucker, a salesman extraordinaire who announced the building of a revolutionary new car: the Tucker '48, the first car in almost a decade to be built fresh from the ground up. Tucker's car, which would include ingenious advances in design and engineering that other car companies could not match, captured the interest of the public, and automakers in Detroit took notice. Here, author Steve Lehto tackles Tucker's amazing story, relying on a huge trove of documents that has been used by no other writer to date. It is the first comprehensive, authoritative account of Tucker's magnificent car and his battles with the government. And in this book, Lehto finally answers the question automobile aficionados have wondered about for decades: exactly how and why the production of such an innovative car was killed
Love the beast( Visual )

9 editions published between 2009 and 2010 in English and Arabic and held by 153 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What if you were a Hollywood movie star with an obsession for cars and racing? You would probably read every script with even the tiniest link to the subject matter, in the hope that you could tell a great car story of the likes of 'Grand Prix', 'Le Mans' or 'Mad Max'. Then one day you happen to open your garage door and sitting there, right in front of you, was the film you had been searching for. This is what happened to Eric Bana and this time around, the co-star is his very own Ford GT Falcon Coupe - THE BEAST. Eric realised the story was in fact, about him, his first car, a lifetime of ownership and a lifetime of friendship. He set about documenting his own 25 year-long love story. A simple tale of one man's ongoing relationship with his very first car. After years of precious restoration, Eric and his three closest friends, decided to enter the car into one of the most gruelling and dangerous motor races that exists: The Targa Tasmania Rally. This would be a personal Everest for both man and machine, until ... on day four of the race, tragedy struck. The man who was hell bent on trying to convey how much he and those around him loved THE BEAST, had just destroyed it. Eric has now unwillingly cast himself in his own real life drama. We follow him from inside the race car to the surreal world of the red carpet. This compelling true story follows Eric's progression as a car lover, and as a person conflicted by what he has done. The personal and social pressures mount up in the face of re building a car that means so much to him. Along the way Eric seeks guidance and wisdom from not only the inner sanctum of his three life long friends but also Jay Leno, Jeremy Clarkson, and Dr Phil
