The words of my perfect teacher by O-rgyan-ʼjigs-med-chos-kyi-dbang-po( Book )

38 editions published between 1976 and 2011 in 7 languages and held by 620 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A favorite of Tibetans and recommended by the Dalai Lama and other senior Buddhist teachers, this practical guide to inner transformation introduces the fundamental spiritual practices common to all Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The Words of My Perfect Teacher is the classic commentary on the preliminary practices of the Longchen Nyingtig - one of the best-known cycles of teaching and a spiritual treasure of the Nyingmapa school - the oldest Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Patrul Rinpoche makes the technicalities of his subject accessible through a wealth of stories, quotations, and references to everyday life. His style of mixing broad colloquialisms, stringent irony, and poetry has all the life and atmosphere of an oral teaching. Great care has been taken by the translators to render the precise meaning of the text in English while still reflecting the vigor and insight of the original Tibetan. A preface by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, insightful introductory essays, explanatory notes, and classic illustrations enhance this quintessential introduction to Tibetan Buddhist practice
Deity, mantra, and wisdom : development stage meditation in Tibetan Buddhist tantra by ʼJigs-med-gling-pa Rang-byung-rdo-rje( Book )

5 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Deity, Mantra, and Wisdom contains four of the most cherished Tibetan Buddhist commentaries on the practices of visualization, mantra recitation, and meditative absorption. These three elements form the core of development stage meditation, one of the most important practices of Buddhist Tantra. The authors of these timeless classics - Jigme Lingpa, Patrul Rinpoche, and Getse Mahapandita - have all profoundly shaped Tibetan Buddhism with their vast scholarship and deep spiritual realization. In these eloquent and inspiring writings, they explain the fundamental philosophy of the development stage, showing not only its profound insights into the nature of reality, but also how to make this view a living experience through the practice of meditation."--Jacket
Groundless paths : the Prajñāpāramitā sūtras, the Ornament of clear realization, and its commentaries in the Tibetan Nyingma tradition by O-rgyan-ʼjigs-med-chos-kyi-dbang-po( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Abhisamayalamkara summarizes all the topics in the vast body of the prajNaparamita sutras. Resembling a zip-file, it comes to life only through its Indian and Tibetan commentaries. Together, these texts not only discuss the "hidden meaning" of the prajNaparamita sutras-the paths and bhumis of sravakas, pratyekaBuddhas, and bodhisattvas-but also serve as contemplative manuals for the explicit topic of these sutras-emptiness-and how it is to be understood on the progressive levels of realization of bodhisattvas. Thus these texts describe what happens in the mind of a bodhisattva who meditates on emptiness, making it a living experience from the beginner's stage up through Buddhahood. Groundless Paths contains the first in-depth study of the Abhisamayalamkara (the text studied most extensively in higher Tibetan Buddhist education) and its commentaries from the perspective of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism. This study consists mainly of translations of Maitreya's famous text and two commentaries on it by Patrul Rinpoche. These are supplemented by three short texts on the paths and bhumis by the same author, as well as extensive excerpts from commentaries by six other Nyingma masters, including Mipham Rinpoche. Thus this book helps close a long-standing gap in the modern scholarship on the prajNaparamita sutras and the literature on paths and bhumis in mahayana Buddhism. Arya Maitreya's Ornament of Clear Realization, with its Indian and Tibetan commentaries, presents the complex dynamics of the path to liberation as a succession of realizations of the empty nature of all phenomena. This presentation is a powerful antidote to whatever two-dimensional views we might hold about spiritual experience and the journey to enlightenment

The nature of mind : the Dzogchen instructions of Aro Yeshe Jungne by O-rgyan-ʼjigs-med-chos-kyi-dbang-po( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Patrul Rinpoche's collection of the Dzogchen teachings of Aro Yeshe Jungne illuminated by practical meditation instructions that can be applied on-the-go in daily life by students of all backgrounds. Patrul Rinpoche, the beloved nineteenth-century master best known for Words of My Perfect Teacher, collected the teachings of the tenth-century adept Aro Yeshe Jungne and synthesized them into the short text translated here as Clear Elucidation of True Nature. How to put these essential teachings into practice is the subject of the lively commentary by the two Khenpo brothers, the late Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche. The Dzogchen meditation instructions of the Aro lineage are divided into nine sets, or nine levels, with specific instructions for each on how to identify the nature of the mind, how to abide in it as a way of life, and how to liberate turbulent thoughts and emotions when they arise. The commentary enfolds this instruction into a broad general teaching suitable for beginners that serves as an introduction to Dzogchen meditation, to the Nyingma tradition, and to basic Buddhism. Succinct and easy to read, the text encapsulates the entire path of the nine levels of study and practice described in the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. As a result, it has much to offer both beginners and longtime meditators to support their understanding and practice"--

The essential jewel of holy practice by O-rgyan-ʼjigs-med-chos-kyi-dbang-po( Book )

3 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Patrul Rinpoche (1808-1887) was one of the most important Dzogchen teachers in nineteenth-century Tibet. His lineage comprises many of the greatest Dzogchen teachers of the twentieth century. The Essential Jewel is among his most beautiful compositions, although it may not be his best known. The poem synthesizes Madhyamaka philosophy and the Dzogchen perspective in a compelling admonition to engage in religious practice aimed at self-perfection. The Essential Jewel is an extraordinary poetic work. Patrul Rinpoche's voice is urgent, personal, compelling, and expressed for the most part in direct earthy language, although it is also replete with precise, technical terminology. The Essential Jewel is also philosophically profound. It draws on ideas grounded in Madhyamaka philosophy and Buddhist ethical theory as well as ideas and practices central to the Dzogchen tradition. Patrul Rinpoche's genius lies in part in his unique ability to articulate a precise philosophical vision in an accessible poetic voice and to do this in the context in an urgent admonition to practice. This translation aims to present this poem in a way that reflects Patrul Rinpoche's poetic voice with sufficient precision to convey his philosophical ideas. It provides an introduction that should give the reader a foundation to read the poem as well as explanatory notes at points where the poem contains references or terminology that may not be accessible to the Western reader"--
