"The Journey of Coronado, by Pedro de Casteneda (1596)" is an account written by Pedro de Castenada of an expedition that the Spanish conquistador Francisco Vazquez de Coronado (c.1510-1554) undertook in 1540 in Mexico in search of the Seven Cities of Cibola, which were reputed to be very rich. The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and the Washington Educational Television Authority (WETA) present the information as part of a companion Web site to their documentary television program entitled "New Perspectives on the West." En los desastres naturales, como el ocurrido en el Eje Cafetero el 25 de enero de 1999, pusieron en evidencia situaciones en las cuales el equilibrio entre la población y el ecosistema tenía elevados niveles de vulnerabilidad. Entendemos aquí por vulnerabilidad la incapacidad de una comunidad para absorber, mediante el autoajuste, los efectos de un determinado cambio en su medio ambiente, o sea su inflexibilidad o incapacidad para adaptarse a ese cambio. Es necesario anotar además que la vulnerabilidad en sí misma constituye un sistema dinámico, es decir, que surge como consecuencia de la interacción de una serie de factores y características (internas y externas) que convergen en una comunidad particular. El resultado de esta interacción es el bloqueo o incapacidad de la comunidad para responder adecuadamente entre la presencia de un riesgo determinado, con el consecuente desastre. El cierre quirurgico de la comunicacion interauricular es considerado una cirugia de alto beneficio y de bajo riesgo y es realizado convencionalmente por esternotomia media; la cicatriz de esta operacion resulta desagradable y puede provocar insatisfaccion y trauma psicologico especialmente en mujeres jovenes. Por razones cosmeticas se puede ofrecer a estos pacientes un abordaje alterno como la toracotomia anterolateral derecha. Igualmente la cirugia valvular mitral y la tricuspidea, se puede realizar por esta misma via, sin sacrificio de la exposicion operatoria o de aumento de complicaciones. La presenta la experiencia de 22 pacientes operados con este abrodaje, entre septiembre de 1996 y julio de 1997. Fueron operados 11 pacientes de comunicacion interauricular y 11 de enfermedad mitral con o sin patologia tricuspidea y otros defectos. La morbilidad se presento solo en dos pacientes y no hubo mortalidad. Los resultados cosmeticos fueron excelentes (AU)
